The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to join our team in Honolulu, Hawai'i. The person in this role will work closely with the Vice President of Finance and the accounting team located in Tokyo, Japan while overseeing outsourced accounting functions in Hawai'i. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about cross-border e-commerce, international & domestic tax compliance, and treasury management, as you will be responsible for the accounting operations of the Hawaiian entity.
A successful candidate will love gaming and manga and enjoy working in both Hawaiian and Japanese environments.
Responsibilities•Monthly financial closing process including bank reconciliations•AP processing and G/L posting including payroll entries using QuickBooks•General excise tax returns (monthly), Form 1099 and other tax filings as needed.•Work closely with Japan team to prepare and send monthly royalty/revenue sharing statements to game developers and manga creators around the world•Liaise with developers' financial counterparts to receive invoices and process payments timely with appropriate withholding taxes including compliance over W-8BEN.•Ensure intercompany payables and receivables are reconciled monthly.•Preparation and review of information, reporting, and withholding tax returns, including Forms 1042 and 1042-S.•Producing ad hoc reporting, variance analysis, budgets, and forecasts on revenue, expense and cash flows•Assist with information requests from tax advisors on income tax filing•Identify and implement process improvement to enhance efficiency and accuracy in accounting operation (including a decision whether the bookkeeping function should be performed in-house in the future)
Requirements•Minimum (7) seven years' experience in accounting required.•Proven experience as a Senior Accountant or similar role•Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for financial analysis and reporting•Strong understanding of accounting principles and tax regulations•Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail•Excellent communication and interpersonal skills•Ability to work independently and as part of an international team•Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field is preferred•Professional accounting certification (e.g., CPA, CMA) is a plus•Expertise in using Quickbooks is a plus•Desire to work in the game and manga industries•(Optional, Strong Plus): Japanese-speaking skills or desire to learn Japanese
