Job Summary

Provide leadership to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the Maintenance Department within a fast-paced manufacturing facility. Plan and direct maintenance and preventive maintenance activities, including production/processing support, environmental compliance, quality control, and facility upkeep. Accountable for all maintenance operations, supervising maintenance staff, and ensuring work quality.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and health regulations.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and mitigate risks.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive preventive maintenance program.
  • Support production department goals and maintain strong production-maintenance coordination.
  • Monitor maintenance staff performance and ensure accurate reporting of hours against work orders.
  • Maintain facility buildings, grounds, utilities, and equipment.
  • Oversee salt storage, solar salt screening, rock salt bagging, and site maintenance.
  • Handle special projects as assigned.
  • Coordinate services, materials, and vendors for maintenance work.
  • Arrange for rental equipment when necessary.
  • Maintain an inventory of spare parts and tools in coordination with the Storeroom Administrator.
  • Utilize SAP and management tools for maintenance program management.
  • Directly involved in hiring, training, and disciplinary actions for maintenance staff.
  • Enforce facility attendance policies.
  • Ensure timely and effective completion of maintenance activities to minimize downtime.
  • Manage maintenance budget, track expenditures, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Prepare reports on maintenance performance, costs, and equipment reliability.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities and implement best practices.
  • Foster a culture of respect, inclusion, cooperation, and responsibility.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field (preferred) or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience as a Maintenance Supervisor in an industrial environment, preferably in manufacturing or salt processing.
  • Preferred 3-5 years of maintenance supervision experience in a manufacturing and packaging operation.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Background knowledge in preventive maintenance and maintenance procedures.
  • Proficient in using maintenance management software and tools (e.g., SAP).
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and team management skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Experience in a union environment is preferred.
  • Computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong understanding of safety regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to handle a high-stress environment and effectively multitask. Must be available for additional hours, including weekends and holidays, based on plant needs.
Work Environment
  • Fast-paced manufacturing and packaging plant environment.
  • Combination of office work and floor presence, requiring significant walking and travel in a large facility.
  • Requires standing for prolonged periods, traveling between office and plant environments, climbing stairs, and wearing personal protective equipment.
  • Work may involve exposure to various temperatures, humidity, and weather conditions.
  • Requires flexibility to respond to urgent repairs on short notice and outside regular hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Candidates must be capable of handling high levels of stress and multitasking to meet production and maintenance demands effectively.
