Procurement Manager - Commodities is responsible for strategically managing and mitigating risks associated with the procurement of commodities essential to the organization's operations. This role involves analyzing market trends, assessing potential risks, and implementing strategies to minimize commodity-related financial and operational risks. The role combines risk management and general procurement activities to ensure efficient and effective procurement operations.Job Duties:Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:Commodity Risk Management:Monitor and analyze global and regional commodity markets to identify potential risks and opportunities.Generate regular reports and dashboards to communicate commodity risk exposure, procurement performance, and mitigation efforts to senior management.Assess the impact of market volatility, geopolitical events, supply chain disruptions, and other factors on commodity prices and supply availability.Develop risk assessment models and strategies to proactively manage commodity price fluctuations.Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies, including hedging, forward contracts, and supply chain diversification, to protect the organization from adverse commodity price movements.Collaborate with internal executive stakeholders and suppliers to align risk mitigation strategies with procurement goals and business objectives.Work closely with finance, operations, and other departments to align procurement and commodity risk management strategies with overall business objectives.Foster effective communication with suppliers to build strong, collaborative relationships.General Procurement:Analyze historical procurement data and market information to identify patterns and opportunities for cost savings and risk reduction.Lead and oversee the end-to-end procurement process, including but not limited to sourcing, negotiations, supplier selection, and contract management.Develop and implement procurement strategies that optimize costs, enhance supplier relationships, and align with the organization's strategic objectives.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that procurement activities support and contribute to the achievement of the organization's overall goals.Establish and maintain best practices, standard operating procedures, and policies to streamline procurement processes and improve efficiency.Manage procurement contracts throughout their lifecycle, ensuring compliance and monitoring supplier performance.Work closely with suppliers to identify opportunities for innovation and sustainability within the supply chain, promoting responsible procurement practices.Knowledge/Skills Required:Bachelor's degree in finance, supply chain management, economics, or a related field.3+ years of experience in commodity risk management, procurement, or related fields.Strong analytical and quantitative skills, including data analysis and modeling proficiency.Knowledge of commodity markets, pricing mechanisms, and supply chain dynamics.Familiarity with risk management tools, such as hedging and derivatives.Excellent communication and negotiation skills.Proficiency in relevant software tools and systems.Experience with SAP.Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Word, PowerPoint, and advanced Excel skills.Minimum of 5 years of strategic procurement experience in manufacturing, MRO, facilities, corporate services, or indirect categories.Familiarity with the food industry and manufacturing practices is an asset.Prioritization skills based on short and long-term objectives.Data analysis and presentation to multiple organizational levels.Influence management skills.Effective verbal and written communication.Multi-tasking capability.Collaborative relationship-building with industry, trade, associations, regulatory agencies, and cross-functional staff.Demonstrated leadership in safety, quality, and policy adherence.Adaptability to a fast-paced environment.Founded in 2009 and headquartered in Downers Grove, IL, we are a world-class contract manufacturer producing wholesome baked goods, snacks and packaged foods for many of the world’s leading food companies.
