Position Summary:

Reviews and processes building applications including site and field inspections, plan review and verification of compliance of construction with applicable codes, consistent with the organization’s values and mission statement. City of Aspen inspectors ensure the safety, efficiency, and integrity of Aspen’s world-class-built environment by maintaining the highest level of training and professionalism in the industry.

Essential Job Functions:

Building Inspections:

Inspects and evaluates residential and commercial systems, both new and existing, to ensure that appropriate codes are maintained and enforced and that electrical codes systems are installed and maintained in a safe and professional manner.

Plans Examination:

Reviews construction plans and permits for compliance with applicable building codes and issues building permits.

Customer Service:

Provides expert, timely customer service to all internal and external Community Development customers.

Technology and Records Management:

Fosters a culture of innovation in the Building Department and works to become a subject matter expert in daily duties which require the use of technology.

City Organizational Values:

Minimum Requirements:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree.

Experience:

Level I: No prior inspection experience. One year of professional level working experience.

Level II: One year of professional level inspection experience.

Level III: Three years of professional level inspection experience.

Technical Knowledge:

Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook (Email), and have a working knowledge of computers and online computer-based technology applications.

Licenses & Certifications:

Must possess an International Code Council (ICC) Plans Examiner and Building Inspector Certification or ability to obtain within one (1) year of hire.

Position Type and Work Hours:

Regular full time, hours may vary with workload.

Evenings/Weekends may be required in addition to or instead of normal hours depending on department needs and special projects.

Work Environment:

Indoors: Office environment. Outdoors/Off-Site: Performs site visits to construction sites, attends meetings, and conferences.
