New York, NYOverview:In this role, you will have the opportunity to provide employment-related advice for a sophisticated financial services organization. You will provide legal guidance and counsel to human resources, managers, and teams within the Business on a wide range of legal topics. You will rely on both generalist legal knowledge and specialist knowledge of employment law. You will typically provide coverage for one or more specific functions within a Division/Location and have responsibility for advising in their functional area(s) of expertise on current or future requirements. The role comprises legal advice, decision of legal questions, creation of legal documents, and the communication of legal topics to the Business as well as to other colleagues. To be successful, we are looking for professionals who are organized self-starters and team players. This role requires excellent judgment and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.What We Offer You:A diverse and inclusive environment that embraces change, innovation, and collaboration.A hybrid working model, allowing for in-office/work from home flexibility, generous vacation, personal and volunteer days.Employee Resource Groups support an inclusive workplace for everyone and promote community engagement.Competitive compensation packages including health and wellbeing benefits, retirement savings plans, parental leave, and family building benefits.Educational resources, matching gift, and volunteer programs.What You'll Do:Provide practical and strategic legal counsel to HR professionals and senior management on US and global employment law-related matters, including compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, accommodations and disability and leave-related matters, compensation plans, whistleblower requirements, restrictive covenant protections, employment issues associated with corporate reorganizations, acquisitions and divestitures, diversity equity and inclusion practices, ERISA and benefits law, and wage and hour compliance.Advise Employee Relations team and other HR professionals on sensitive employment matters such as discipline and terminations, investigation of internal complaints of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation, and employee disability issues, leaves, and accommodation requests.Advise regarding pay practices and compensation plans, including drafting of commission plans and deferred compensation arrangements.Oversee employment litigation in federal and state courts, arbitration tribunals, and administrative agencies, including assigning and managing outside counsel, managing budgets and reserves, recommending strategy for defense, overseeing litigation hold process and document collection, participating in mediations, and recommending settlement strategy.Investigate and respond to attorney demand letters.Draft, revise, develop, and advise on employment-related agreements, including offer letters, employment policies, and retention and separation agreements.How You'll Lead:The successful candidate will gain extensive experience overseeing a variety of employment advisory related matters and employment litigation, as well as broadening their overall legal expertise and getting exposure to the operation of a global investment bank and its senior management.Provide advice to senior management with respect to ongoing employment matters and employment litigation.Collaborate with other infrastructure functions, such as Human Resources, Employee Relations, and Compliance.Skills You'll Need:Extensive experience practicing employment law at a major law firm and/or in an in-house counsel role.Admission to the New York State Bar or otherwise qualified to practice law in New York as registered in-house counsel.Excellent judgment and ability to advise on legal risks within a business context.Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communications skills.Strong attention to detail.Skills That Will Help You Excel:Prior in-house experience in financial services is a plus but not required.Synthesize and distill legal advice to non-lawyers in a usable and practical manner.Must be able to collaborate, cooperate, and work well with others in a supportive and respectful manner.Ability to handle and strategically prioritize numerous projects.Operate in a fast-paced business environment.Expectations:It is the Bank's expectation that employees hired into this role will work in the New York office in accordance with the Bank's hybrid working model.Deutsche Bank provides reasonable accommodations to candidates and employees with a substantiated need based on disability and/or religion.The salary range for this position in New York City is $170,000 to $254,500.
