The Preoperative Registered Nurse works as a professionalpractitioner employed by Amergis Healthcare Staffing and assumes the responsibilityand accountability for the application of the nursing process and the deliveryof patient care in the preoperative setting. The Preoperative Registered Nurse demonstrates the ability to makeclinical judgments in an effective and efficient manner with supervision.
The Preoperative Registered Nurse demonstrates criticalthinking and performance ability in the coordination of patient care andconsistently performs according to nursing standards. The Preoperative Registered Nurse isaccountable in managing patient care and assisting others in the management ofthe preoperative patient.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement andevaluate patient care within the preoperative areaPerforms focused interview to identify specific patientneedsAssess signs and symptoms indicating physiologic andpsychosocial changes in the patient's conditionCollects, analyzes, and interprets data and information fromhealth care members and documents actual and/or potential nursing diagnosesDocuments the patient's plan of care using identifiednursing diagnoses, expected patient outcomes, and selected nursinginterventionsProvides preoperative instructions to patientsAssists physicians during surgeries by performing routinetasks such as preparing operating rooms, sterilizing equipment, and setting upsurgical instrumentsServes as a liaison between the patient, family, physician,and other health care providersProvides education and support to patients who aretransitioning to home after a hospital stayPerforms interventions according to identified priorities,plan of care, and the hospital policies and patient outcome standardProvides a safe, comfortable and therapeutic patientenvironmentInitiates and evaluates patient and/or family educationRevises the plan of care according to evaluation, changes inmedical plan of care, and effective/ineffective nursing interventionsDocuments patient's response to nursing and otherinterventionsUses clinical judgment in evaluation activities to meetpatient care needs of an assigned floor/unit including establishing prioritiesMonitors safety and effectiveness of the environment andequipmentPerforms other duties as assigned/necessary
Minimum Requirements:
One year of preoperative experience preferredCurrent Registered Nurse License for the state in which thenurse practicesComplies with all relevant professional standards ofpracticeParticipation and completion of Amergis Competency programwhen applicableCurrent CPR if applicableTB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicableCurrent Health certificate (per contract or stateregulation)Must meet all federal, state and local requirementsSuccessful completion of new hire training as applicable tojob siteUnderstand patient confidentiality and HIPAArequirementsAbility to effectively elicit/provide information to andfrom appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors,co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in theEnglish language is requiredComputer proficiency requiredMust be at least 18 years of age
