Design Engineer within our Traffic Division. You will be responsible for engineering designs utilizing the knowledge of general engineering principles and practices to interpret, organize, execute, and coordinate assignments to complete traffic engineering designs for roadways, bicycles, and pedestrians.Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Develop traffic analyses, operations, and safety studies to improve vehicular and pedestrian safety.Develop plans for pavement markings, signing, signals, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), and lighting tasks.Plan, schedule, conduct, or coordinate detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of minor and major projects for ODOT and other municipalities.Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, and other topographical or geologic data to plan projects.Perform design computations.Design projects in accordance with client specifications and guidelines utilizing MicroStation and Open Roads.Develop construction cost estimates.Assist in the preparation of engineering documents for advertisement and construction.Prepare and compile contract plans, specifications, and estimates.Coordinate with internal team members to ensure project completion by the defined deadline and established quality.Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities
Perform other related duties as assigned.Required Experience
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field from an ABET accredited engineering program.0-4 years of related experience.Intermediate experience with MicroStation, GEOPAK, and OpenRoads Designed (ORD).Proficient in Microsoft Office.Strong written and communication skills.Preferred Experience
Engineer Intern certification (EI) or ability to obtain within 6-12 months from date of hire.Experience working with local clients at the county and state level.Experience with Synchro, TransModeler, or HCS is a plus.Working Conditions
Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
