PROBATION : All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory 6-month probation.
SUMMARY OF POSITION : The Deputy Chief of Maintenance for the Fleet Management Division assists with leading a team of approximately 187 and will have direct oversight of and direct the day-to-day maintenance and repairs for the Fleet Management Division on an annual basis. The Deputy Chief of Maintenance will oversee multiple facilities within the Fleet Management Division located throughout the City, ensuring that building maintenance is properly coordinated and adheres to industry best practices.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Oversees and directs the day-to-day maintenance and repairs for the City which equates to approximately $41 million dollars on an annual basis for multiple facilities within the Fleet Management Division.
Provides oversight of Building Maintenance Staff to optimize team productivity and minimize labor expenses. Continuously monitors and enhances Fleet Maintenance performance.
Directly supervises two (2) Fleet Superintendents, oversees thirteen (13) supervisors managing a total of one hundred and fifty (150) Fleet Facilities Maintenance employees across ten (10) different locations.
Collaborates closely with the Fleet Management Chief and Deputy Chief of Administration to create, oversee, and manage the Fleet Division’s total $87 million dollar budget.
Utilizes extensive vehicle and equipment maintenance experience and data to monitor and enhance the “Preventative Maintenance” program.
Manages the relationship and performance of approximately one hundred and fifty (150) vendors, vehicle manufacturers, maintenance, and repair vendors.
Takes the lead by spearheading all special projects and initiatives related to Building Maintenance tasks and vehicle inspections.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS : A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and seven (7) years of experience in administrative or professional work, two (2) years of which must have included supervision or project management.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS : Minimum of five (5) years of senior management experience in Fleet management.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Strong knowledge of Fleet Management.
Strong leadership skills.
Genuine personality and disposition when communicating with people at all levels.
Extensive knowledge of troubleshooting and complex analysis skills.
Ability to manage priorities and make sound recommendations.
Thorough knowledge of principles, practices, regulations, and procedures of operating a governmental service organization.
Strong negotiation skills.
