Position Summary:
This is an Advanced Practice Professional (APP) job opening. NPs and PAs with 3+ years' experience will only be considered. New graduates will not be considered.
Advanced Practice Professional will provide health care and specialized health services to patients and families enrolled in Cardiac Surgery. The APP will coordinate care of this patient population in collaboration with all members of the health care team. This position will be 100% inpatient.
Ideal candidates will have experience in surgical assist in the cardiac OR, vein harvesting. Valve Replacements.

* Independently evaluates patients in the hospital* Ordering/interpreting testing and lab results, modifying plan of care to address results* Provide clinical expertise and direction to support patient medication management* Maintain accurate documentation regarding patient status, evaluations, and treatments to physicians, streamline the patient transfer process between levels of care, including communicating specific patient needs to internal and external team members* Perform other related duties as required to assure patient safety and satisfaction* Participate in the development and presentation of educational experiences for patients, families, and health care professionals
Procedures - surgical assist in the OR for cardiac surgery
Schedule - contingent coverage for various shifts. Call shifts, 10-hour, OR shifts
Weekend requirement - Yes, depending on shift covering for
Call requirement - Yes; contingent position will cover for open shift (i.e., Inpatient only or IP w/ call shift depending on need)
OR Time - 4-5 days/week
Duties & Responsibilities:
1. In collaboration with physician(s), APP will provide independent acute and/or routine medical care to a patients and families enrolled in Cardiac Surgery
2. Writes appropriate orders, if/when applicable
3. Practices safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods
4. Coordinates the activities of patient care and support staff within the clinic
5. Writes progress notes in EMR indicating patient status and treatment procedures performed
6. Provides health education to patients, families, and/or community health practitioners and groups
7. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshop
8. May perform clinical research related to specific operations
9. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Knowledge of clinical operations and procedures
2. Knowledge of drugs and their indications, contraindications, dosing, side effects, and proper administration
3. Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards
4. Ability to perform medical examinations using standard medical procedures
5. Life support as required through privileging
6. Ability to clearly communicate medical information to professional practitioners and/or the general public
7. Ability to educate patients and/or families as to the nature of disease and to provide instruction on proper care and treatment
8. Knowledge of current and emerging trends in technologies, techniques issues, and approaches in area of expertise
9. Ability to communicate therapeutically with patients and families
10. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
11. Knowledge of OR, pre-op and/or post-op procedures
12. Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements
13. Ability to make administrative and procedural decisions
14. Skill in preparing and maintaining patient records
15. Knowledge of primary care principles and practices
Conditions of Employment
* Employee Health requires all employed providers to complete a health screen per HFHS policy.* COVID Vaccination Requirement; a provider must be fully vaccinated (unless they have an approved medical or religious exemption) before their application will be forwarded to a specialist during the credentialing process.* Successful credentialing process* Must maintain professional certification status* All offers are contingent on credentialing/privileging
Working Conditions:
Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment
Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment
Will work with blood or blood-borne pathogens and will require OSHA training
Minimum Job Requirements:
1. Bachelor's Degree and/or master's degree - Certification/Licensure eligible for Michigan certification as a PA or Minimum Masters in Nursing, Certified NP pending, as documented by temporary certificate
2. Completed Degrees from an accredited institution and Michigan licensure
Qualifications:
1. Education/Training
a. NP - Completion of a NP training program accredited by the Commission on the Collegiate of Nursing Education (CCNE) or the national League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC)
b. PA - Completion of a PA training program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the PA (ARC-PA)
2. Certification
a. NP - Certification by a certification body recognized by the State of Michigan
b. PA - Certification by National Commission on Certification of PAs (NCCPA)
3. Michigan Licensure
4. DEA/CSL as required through credentialing
3. EPIC Experience, preferred
4. BLS / ACLS
