JOB GOAL:
To facilitate the instruction and care of students with teachers by effectively providing support services. Paraeducators assist students under the director of a certified teacher. This includes assisting the teacher in general daily classroom activities and helping students with special needs to care for their physical, emotional and safety needs.
REPORTS TO: Principal/Assistant Principal
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:Assist students in achieving classroom objectives and academic successMaintains professional competence through participation in District provided in-service activities and/or self-selected professional growth activities related to job responsibilitiesDemonstrates ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students in school environment and communityCollaborates and cooperates with the classroom teacherWorks with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of materials or skills initially introduced and outlined by certified staffAssists the certified staff in devising special strategies for reinforcing learning materials and skills based on the understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilitiesAssists as directed by certified staff in the effort to successfully maintain students with special needs in an integrated setting, as determined by the grade level teamAssists teachers in instructional activities that allow for differentiated learning opportunitiesAdvises the certified staff and/or administrator to any problem or special information about a studentDevelops positive working relationships with school personnel and parentsIs capable of physically assisting students with special needs, including students using wheelchairs, of any grade level (Preschool - 8th grade) with personal needs and care including eating, dressing, positioning, bathing/cleansing, grooming, toileting, standing, bus loading, and lifting/carrying or supporting students who may weigh 60 or more poundsAssists with the monitoring and supervising of students during non-instructional times/areas such as: classroom, hall, lunch, recess, bus, or as otherwise requestedPromotes and models school behavior management programsAssists and carries out other duties assigned by supervising teacher and/or by buildingadministrator(s)
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
