We achieve this mission by maintaining responsive and high quality surveillance systems, maintaining effective collaborations at the federal and state levels, and by providing subject matter expertise on these conditions.
Why does the job exist?
This position will supervise five or more staff within the Infectious Disease Epidemiology Bureau (IDEB) who lead or support respiratory disease epidemiology programs associated with Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity (ELC) and Emerging Infections Program (EIP) grants. Supervisory responsibilities include meeting personnel management and administrative requirements, effective meeting management, strong delegation skills, performance monitoring, and staff development and training. The major tasks will include emergency response planning and workforce training, data quality management, information system automation and efficiency, data analytics and reporting, and supervision.
How does it get done?
The key responsibilities of this position provide epidemiologic leadership to ensure effective surveillance of respiratory infectious diseases and guidance to policy makers and the public. These responsibilities include:- Supervision of respiratory disease epidemiologists- Management and planning to strengthen systems, prepare for infectious disease emergencies, and meet grant requirements- Leadership that inspires quality work by junior staff, peers, and Department leaders- Data analytics and reporting that assure the proper use of surveillance data- Understanding of information technology to improve efficiency and effectiveness of surveillance systems

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have experience with data quality management, analysis, and reporting. They will have two years of supervisory experience, strong delegation and collaborative partnership skills, effective planning and communication skills, and program management experience.
Minimum Qualification
Master's degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Sciences, Social Sciences, or Statistics and two (2) years of experience in Public Health to include data analysis and linking methodology. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Lifting up to twenty-five (25) pounds may be required. Some travel is required.
