Job Summary:

As a member of the Adult Cardiology Practice team, participates in the diagnosis, treatment and supportive care of cardiology patients and any others as defined by the Collaborative agreement the NP has with the collaborating physician.

This position is involved in a team-based approach to care. Team members are trained to meet the highest level of function for their role as per the State of Tennessee/Georgia guidelines. Is trained and assigned (as per their role and responsibilities) to coordinate care for patients and is trained and assigned to support patients/families/caregivers in self-management, self-efficacy and behavior change. Is trained and assigned (as per their role and responsibilities) to manage the practices' patient population. Participates in the practice's quality improvement process and performance evaluation.

Education:

Required:

RN with a Master's Degree in nursing certification in family and/or adult nurse practitioner. Graduate of a nationally accredited school of nursing. Or completion of Physician Assistant studies and licensure.

The Nurse Licensure Compact will not change how to obtain or renew a Tennessee license. However, the Tennessee nursing license will be a single state license for Tennessee Residents or non-compact state residents. Tennessee licensure or multistate licensure from a compact state must be obtained within three months of hire for non-Tennessee residents.

Department Position Summary:

A nurse practitioner or PA in Erlanger's Adult Cardiology Physician Practice will work under direction of the physicians/medical director. He/She will be responsible for developing evidence based protocols and utilizing them to develop an individualized plan of care. He/She must be able to collect, document, and analyze patient data; able to collaborate with the health care team in the development and implementation of testing and treatment according to protocols; be able to participate in development and implementation health screening program for adolescents and adults, and develop protocols for identification of high-risk individuals. He/She must participate in community and corporate education on cardiology topics.

The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over patient's life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status. He/She must interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the unit policies and procedures. This is done through evaluation of direct supervisor by direct observation, in a skills lab, or discussed verbally or written. Competency can also be evaluated by a formal peer review process and/or by self assessment based on objective criteria that is reviewed and validated.
