We are the largest academic medical center in Central Massachusetts and the regions only Level 1 Trauma Center. Our team serves a diverse patient population offering advanced cardiac surgery including open and endovascular aortic repair, coronary revascularization, structural heart and mechanical circulatory support, including a destination VAD program. Our clinical work spans the full spectrum of perioperative cardiac surgery care from high complexity tertiary and quaternary care services to routine surgical cases. We perform approximately 550 cases annually.
Our advanced practice provider team is the first point of contact and provides care in the ICU, post-operative floor and outpatient clinic. Our surgically trained APPs provide operative first assisting and endoscopic vein harvest in all cases.
We are seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our top performing team. Our team currently consists of 15 Advanced Practice Providers, 2 Cardiac Surgeons and 5 Surgical Intensivists. This provider will work a full-time schedule - 40 hours per week. There will be a day/night shift rotation, including weekends and holidays. The schedule consists of 3 12-hour shifts per week.
Under the general supervision of a physician, the Physician Assistant is responsible for providing varied medical services, including: obtaining complete medical history and performing a physical examination; ordering and interpreting laboratory tests and imaging studies; formulating a diagnosis and treatment plan; prescribing and/or dispensing medication; assisting in surgery or other invasive procedures; counseling patients and families.
Major Responsibilities:
* Performs and documents a complete history and physical examination, including review of the available medical record, to formulate diagnoses and treatment plan. * Orders and reviews appropriate laboratory tests and imaging studies. * Participates in daily inpatient rounds, interviews and examines patients, reviews laboratory data and other clinical studies, and records daily progress notes. * Requests consultations and communicates with consultants. * Performs routine bedside or clinical procedures, as described in the Delineation of Privileges.
License/Certification/Education:

* A Bachelor's degree and Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program. * Current Massachusetts license, issued by the Physician Assistant Board, and current NCCPA certification. * If prescribing medications is included in clinical duties and privileges, Massachusetts Controlled Substances Registration and federal DEA Controlled Substance Registration are required.
