Job Summary
This twelve-month, non-tenure-track position requires teaching graduate courses in the Physician Assistant Studies degree program. This is a new program that will need to be developed between programmatic faculty and the School of Health Professions prior to the first cohort of students being admitted.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
* Teaches graduate students in a variety of courses in Physician Assistant Studies. Teaching includes preparation of course materials such as syllabi, course content, homework assignments, and handouts; evaluation and grading of students' class work, assignments, and papers; acts as academic advisor for multiple students; maintains student attendance records, grades, and other required records.* Curriculum development, organization, and evaluation in preparation for initial and ongoing accreditation requirements.* Communicates any concerns or issues with the course coordinator, program coordinator or school director.* Submits course specific documentation as scheduled.* Clearly communicates course requirements to students.* Develops exam questions, contributes to question banks, participates in post-exam evaluation of exam content, and proctors exams as needed.* Maintains office hours to assure availability to assigned students for support including but not limited to advisement, exam review, required remediation, and summative evaluations.* Participates in required PA program accreditation self-study activities, and in departmental tasks such as admissions, curriculum, and remediation committees.* Participates in service opportunities that impact the university community, professional community, and/or local community.* Participates in the shared governance of the University, college, and school through various opportunities for engagement on campus.* Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
* Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies (doctorate degree preferred).
* Status as a Certified Physician Assistant (PA-C) or Emeritus status.
* Minimum of three (3) years of clinical practice required
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
* Specialized knowledge in the field of Physician Assistant Studies as demonstrated by graduate level coursework or professional experience is required.
* Candidates should possess qualities of effective leadership.
* Candidates should have the ability to deliver accurate, concise and quality communication (verbal and written) in a timely manner.
* Candidates should have the ability to work collaboratively on interdisciplinary teams.
Preferred Qualifications
* Research, teaching, and/or service activity that demonstrates commitment to diversity and inclusion.
* Experience working with national professional organizations.
* Experience teaching in both online and traditional classroom environments.
* Professional work experience as a faculty member in a post-graduate physician assistant program (2 or more years preferred).
* Evidence of strong administrative and managerial skills.
* Experience as a Didactic Coordinator, Clinical Coordinator, or DCE preferred.
* Experience with the initial accreditation and re-accreditation of health profession degree programs.
