ICU Unit Details

- Beds: 6

- Ratios: 1:3 - Depending on acuity

- Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS

- Common diagnoses/Types of patients: No cardiac intervention. Sepsis, elderly, COPD, CHF, suicide, drug overdose, a fib RVR, etc.

- Experience: At least 1 year in the specialty.

- Floating Requirements: Possible float to Acute Care (full or partial assignment) (a 12-bed unit, may take a full assignment of 5-6 patients on night shift) or possible float to ER (tasking and may do 1:1 as well).

- Are there Tele/Monitor Techs on this unit? Are RNs required to read their own strips? What brand are the tele monitors?: Responsible for monitoring, reading, and interpretating their own strips when in home unit of ICU and if/when floated to Acute Care Unit. Client & Phillips monitors.

- Are RNs required to titrate drips?: Yes

- Common titratable &/or set rate drips: Sedation (Propofol, etc.), pressors (Levo, Norepi, Dopamine), paralytics (rare), Insulin, Cardizem, etc.

Support Staff

- Charge Nurse/House Supervisor? Does the charge nurse take an assignment?: There is a charge nurse over acute care and ICU (works similar to a house supervisor). Free of patient assignment. The charge nurse is not an ICU nurse, but they are ACLS certified.

- Are there nurse aids on this unit/Ratios: Yes - shared between acute care and ICU. 2-3 on per shift, depending on census.

- Hospitalist or Intensivist in house:

Tele-nocturnist. Tele-intensivist

- RT in ICU 24/7:

RT in house 24/7, shared house wide.

- RT Equipment (vents, Cpap, BiPap, etc.): Heated high flow, CPAP, bipap,

Drager vents.
