Research Associate II, Protein Sciences and Structural Biology
Skills Alliance, Cambridge, MA, United States
We are currently seeking a highly motivated and passionate research associate to support drug discovery projects. We will provide cutting-edge protein sciences and structural biology professional training to support the candidate in driving therapeutic discovery at the bench through the production, characterization and crystallization of therapeutic protein targets. The successful candidate will have a solid understanding of protein biochemistry and molecular biology. Experience in structural biology is advantageous.
This is a 6-month contract position with the possibility of turning into a full-time role depending on business needs.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES
- Developing and executing strategies to clone and express recombinant proteins in a variety of cell culture systems
- Purifying tagged or native proteins using standard purification (FPLC systems and column chromatography) and analytical techniques (SDS-PAGE, Western blot, light scattering, and protein LC/MS)
- With training, produce high quality protein crystal structures and co-crystal structures, carrying out the process from crystallization screening through to structure refinement
- Supporting the crystallographic pipeline through protein design, expression, purification, and biophysical characterization
- Demonstrating the ability to interpret experimental outcomes and proposing follow-up studies
- Documenting work, managing, analyzing and effectively presenting results to multi-disciplinary project teams
- Working in partnership with team members and collaborators to best achieve results
QUALIFICATIONS
- B.S. or M.S. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biophysics or a related life science field with 0-2 years research experience in an academic or industrial setting
- Experience with molecular cloning and vector construction, bacterial expression, and protein purification through conventional and affinity-based chromatographic approaches is desired
- Experience in the functional characterization of recombinant proteins and biophysical characterization of protein-protein and/or protein-small molecule interactions is desired
- Knowledge in protein crystallography, cryo-EM, or NMR is advantageous
- A proven record of successful communication and interaction with project team members, external customers or vendors is advantageous
The successful candidate will be a results-focused, team-oriented scientist able to excel in a fast-track environment across multiple projects. They must be accountable, self-motivated, detail-oriented and exhibit problem solving skills. In addition, the successful candidate will be a clear and effective communicator, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills to enable collaboration with team members.
