Under general supervision, the

Systems Engineer II

(SE II) is expected to ensure the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of infrastructure systems that supports core organizational functions; and complete routine assignments and/or project tasks. The SE II focuses on packaging, distributing, and maintaining software applications across the enterprise, ensuring compatibility and smooth integration with infrastructure systems. The incumbent provides operational support for application deployment, monitoring, and optimization, with an emphasis on troubleshooting issues related to application packaging and automated installations. While the work assignments of the SE II will typically follow existing solutions, the incumbent must be able to recognize and respond to complex and non-routine issues and assist with complex assignments.

Responsibilities

Fulfill day-to-day operational tasks associated with maintaining infrastructure systems.

Optimize end-user computing environments, including desktops, laptops, and mobile devices, through automation and proactive maintenance. Create and maintain a consistent client image for deployment across the enterprise. Provide tier 2 and 3 support for client-side infrastructure, including resolving complex client issues.

Package, test, and deploy software applications across enterprise environments using industry-standard tools (e.g., SCCM, Intune). Ensure applications are properly configured, updated, and compatible with different client environments. Create, maintain, and troubleshoot custom scripts for automated deployments (e.g., PowerShell, Batch scripts).

Administer and support MDM solutions (e.g., Microsoft Intune, VMware Workspace ONE) to manage and secure mobile devices and applications. Configure policies and ensure compliance with organizational standards for mobile devices, including remote wipe and encryption management.

Continuously seek opportunities to improve deployment processes, packaging tools, and client engineering solutions. Proactively suggest enhancements to existing infrastructure, reducing manual efforts and increasing automation.

Serve as technical lead or as team member for moderately complex projects to provide new or improved infrastructure services.

Provide 24/7 on-call support for mission critical infrastructure systems on a rotating basis.

Create and maintain current and accurate technical documentation and diagrams.

Develop and nurture relationships and collaborate with other members of IT staff and end users to resolve technical challenges.

Participate in hardware/software evaluations for infrastructure systems.

Participate in Design Reviews to ensure reasonable and supportable solutions.

Follow and offer improvements for departmental processes such as change management, incident management, and problem management.

Perform assigned tasks to improve processes and meet departmental goals.

Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve infrastructure systems’ issues.

Eliminate manual routine tasks via configuration management and automation tools.

Identify and train in technical area(s) to develop expertise.

Mentor entry level staff.

Perform moderately complex planned maintenance after-hours/weekends as required.

Perform other duties as assigned.

QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Minimum 5 years of system administrator or engineer experience in an enterprise with increasing responsibilities.

Minimum 5 years of experience supporting server operating systems.

Minimum 2 years of experience building and supporting virtual servers.

Experience using Python or PowerShell programming for system administration.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Five plus years in client engineering, application packaging, and device management in an enterprise environment.

Preferred certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Endpoint Administrator Associate, SCCM Certification, or related credentials.

Advanced skills with server operations systems, such as Microsoft Server, CentOS, Open SUSE, RHEL or SLES.

Expert skills administering Microsoft Active Directory; experience of multiple OSes authenticating to AD.

Advanced skills with reviewing and using logs.

Intermediate technical knowledge of current software protocols, and Internet standards, including DHCP, DNS, LDAP, NTP, SMTP, SNMP, and SSH.

Strong multi-faceted, analytical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Reliable contributor both individually and as a team member.

Strong presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Competent use of desktop applications.

Experience in application packaging and deployment using tools such as SCCM, Microsoft Intune, or equivalent systems. Proficiency in scripting languages for automation of deployment processes.

Hands-on experience with Mobile Device Management (MDM) systems such as Microsoft Intune or VMware Workspace ONE. Ability to configure security policies, deploy mobile applications, and remotely manage mobile devices.

Proficiency in administering and maintaining SCCM for application packaging, operating system deployment, patch management, and asset reporting. Ability to manage collections, task sequences, and deployments.

Experience in OS imaging and deployment. Familiarity with creating, updating, and troubleshooting custom operating system images for enterprise environments.

Strong knowledge of client engineering including Windows and macOS operating systems, hardware configuration, and enterprise software integration. Ability to optimize client performance through automated tools and proactive maintenance.

Demonstrated troubleshooting abilities to resolve complex client issues related to application packaging, MDM, and deployment. Experience providing tier 2 and tier 3 support for client devices.

Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively across teams including network, security, and server groups. Ability to convey technical solutions to non-technical audiences.

Experience with documentation and process management, including creating detailed deployment guides and documenting system configurations.

The annual base salary range for this position is from $95,888 to $143,811, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
