About the jobWe are seeking an experienced Principal Engineer for High-Speed Optical transceiver Design to join our growing team. This position will be the design authority for our 800G and beyond optical transceiver products. You will work across our technical teams and help us to deliver Lumilens’ family of optical transceiver solutions to market.

Responsibilities:Provide technical leadership for the definition of the system architecture, design, interfaces, risks, and tradeoff analysis supporting product development objectivesCollaborate with cross-functional teams on feature specifications, collect requirements from all relevant partners, and make decisions about implementation tradeoffsSupport selection and characterization of DSP, RF IC, and photonic ICs and subassemblies.Coordinate with external partners and the internal team to drive the hardware platform developmentReview and oversee engineering verification plans and tests, ensuring designs meet product objectivesProvide technical leadership, mentorship, and coaching to team membersOwn link budgets and penalty allocations for optical transceiver products.

Required / Desired knowledge, skills, and abilities:MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering/Physics or equivalent education with experience in optical communications, photonics, high-speed electronics or systems7+ years experience of developing optical transceivers with market successFundamental understanding of optical communication systems, fiber transmission penalties, photonic integrated components, electronic (integrated) circuits, signal analysis, and signal processingFundamental understanding of high-speed optoelectronic devices (lasers, detectors, modulators)Familiar with high-speed ICs, including DSP, modulator drivers, and transimpedance amplifiersExperience characterizing and troubleshooting high-speed optical transceiversHands-on experience working with system-level optical communication hardware and componentsExperience characterizing high-speed RF and optoelectronic components and assembliesExtensive understanding of IMDD and coherent communications systemsDemonstrated design of products in the field with Telcordia GR-468 complianceProgramming experience in Python desiredGood communication and collaboration skillsCandidate will be required to spend the majority of time in our San Jose, California office.
