RESPONSIBILITIESResponsible for providing management, leadership, direction and supporting within Mortenson's Zero Injury Safety program for multiple project teams and construction sites.Provide safety oversight, leadership and direction in the implementation of the Zero Injury Safety program across multiple project sitesLead project management teams in developing site specific safety program and activitiesIdentify training needs and conduct safety orientation and training programs, including train-the trainer sessionsReview Safety Submittals and attend preconstruction and preparatory meetings with subcontractorsProvide professional direction and mentorship to Safety, Senior Safety Engineers and CoordinatorsOversee documentation, tracking and analysis of all Safety, Injury and Hazard statistics, trend analyses, and OSHA reportsConduct work area safety auditsConduct or assist with major incident analysisMonitor and review subcontractor activities for safety concernsLead Return to Work and Modified Duty programCollaborate with Risk Management departmentReview project work plans to ensure safety is adequately incorporated
Provide resource of safety related informationEvaluate and offer solutions for industrial hygiene concernsMaintain operational knowledge of construction safety, OSHA, ANSI, and other applicable standards, regulations, laws, and proceduresServe as resource for safety issues or concerns for all project team members/operating group management
Other duties as assignedSupport Operating Group Safety Director and Safety Leadership Team in achieving and maintaining operating group safety performance metricsInterface with client safety personnel, union representatives, industry groups, etc.Accompany safety, health, insurance and OSHA personnel on work-site toursEnsure maintenance and inspection of safety equipment and protective wearContribute in the annual review process of operating group safety engineers as requested
Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levelsLead team members by example, offer effective coaching and feedback, and effectively manage performanceQUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in safety, occupational health, or equivalent plusMinimum seven years of construction safety experienceIf no Bachelor's degree, high school diploma, CHST Certification, OSHA 500 and a minimum of 12 years of continuous construction experience leading crews and planning work, to include at least seven years as a dedicated construction safety professional responsible for managing project safety programs, conducting / reviewing hazard analyses and developing controls, conducting safety training, and planning work activities or equivalent experience in a relevant field.Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification preferredCurrent driver's licenseDetail orientation sufficient to organize and manage multiple project tasksAbility to work in Microsoft Office and pertinent safety related software programsShown positive and professional attitude, and strong customer service skillsAbility to interpret and communicate Mortenson policiesEffective public speaking and presentation skillsStrong teamwork orientation, initiative, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skillsActive listening skills and effective communication including an openness to diverse input and feedbackKnowledge of Equal Employment Opportunity, inclusive behaviors, and Affirmative Action plans and their intended use
