Under the supervision of the Director of Security Services and according to established policies and procedures, the Console Operator relay incoming and outgoing telephone calls and operate public address system as required for Good Samaritan Hospital and Mission Oaks Hospital. The Console Operator is staffed twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week. The position monitors all security, communications and fire/life safety systems. The Console Operator is directly responsible for the accurate documentation of routine and unusual events occurring on or near the facilities.The Console Operator identifies and responds to Emergency CODE situations, and provides approved patient information to callers and refers other inquiries to the appropriate departments.Monitors all security, communications, and fire/life safety systems within Good Samaritan and Mission Oaks Hospital. Operates telephone console in order to answer, transfer and relay incoming telephone calls.Proactively monitor all surveillance cameras and CCTV remote view programs. Monitors and responds to all security/life safety system alarms. Adheres to disaster, emergency, safety and fire policies and procedures in response to alarms by notifying appropriate Hospital or outside agency personnel and specifying areas involved.Answer and respond to events and situations received over regular and emergency phones; speak clearly, give direction, and provide guidance to employees and security staff during emergencies. Familiar with chemical spill response procedures and bomb threat response procedures. Familiar with and maintain list of bypass phones to be used during complete telephone system failure and System Down Procedures.Handle (without delay) complaints and unusual/critical event information to Shift Supervisor, Account Manager, and Security Director.Accurately document routine and unusual events occurring on or near the Good Samaritan or Mission Oaks Hospital. Via shift reports, pass down logs, incident reports, or established methods.Must be able to handle computer inquires on PC computer applications. Familiar with Voice Mail system and able to instruct others in its use.Inform without delay the Shift Supervisor/Account Manager of any missing, damaged, or inoperative equipment or communications, alarm, CCTV or other systems.Contact Technical Support with problems and perform necessary resolution when requested.Contacts security as requested by employees or visitors in need of escort to parking areas or in response to calls for assistance.
Qualifications:
Ability to read and write in order to maintain simple records and logs. To transmit information orally in simple sentences.Ability to operate computer and update data necessary for personnel changes.Interpersonal skills are necessary in order to communicate effectively with a wide variety of Hospital personnel, patients and outside callers when gathering and exchanging approved information.Ability to communicate in a calm and reassuring manner to the public under stressful conditions, (i.e. earthquakes, fire, disasters, etc.).Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail. Work is frequently performed under pressure.Ability to prioritize jobs needed to be performed and complete work as expected.
