**Description**
The Department of Health Humanities & Bioethics (HHBE) at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry (URSMD), and the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) seek to recruit an Associate Professor level faculty member/nurse leader for a new full-time, professional or academic interprofessional bioethics position.
**ROLES AND RESPONSIBILTIES**
This joint appointment includes A) a clinical component in Nursing Practice in Strong Memorial Hospital (50%), B) a clinical ethics and scholarship component in the School of Medicine and Dentistry (50%).
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to: Serve as Director, Clinical Nurse Ethics
o
Oversee and facilitate nursing ethics activities, including needs assessments and evaluate quality and potential impact on patients, families, and nursing staff
o
Conduct ethics and moral distress debriefing for clinical staff
o
Serve as a member of the clinical ethics consultation team
o
Develop programs designed to ameliorate moral distress
o
Contribute to the ethics teaching and scholarship in SMD & potentially in SON undergrad, graduate, and professional settings in collaboration with faculty in bioethics and in health humanities
o
Develop curricular material to promote nursing leadership in hospital ethics activities
o
Organize and manage the annual bioethics conference
o
Attend monthly HHBE and Nursing Practice Executive Council
o
Serve on URSMD committees, as appropriate
o
Build interprofessional collaborations around moral issues inherent in-patient care
o
Work with colleagues in Nursing, Medicine, Hospital Administration, and other disciplines to develop and integrate programs that assure excellence in ethics education
**Qualifications**
Candidates must have an excellent record of quality ethics teaching and scholarship,
and significant experience in clinical ethics consultation. This position requires a doctoral degree relevant to clinical bioethics, nursing ethics, and medical ethics (PhD, DNP, DrPH or equivalent). Candidates will have evidence of substantial educational and clinical work related to moral distress in healthcare. Certification as a healthcare ethics consultant is preferred. Significant clinical ethics experience with healthcare trainees across the learning continuum and in interprofessional settings is essential, with particular expertise in clinical ethics, organizational ethics, death and dying, and cultural issues relevant to healthcare. Given the interprofessional /interdisciplinary focus of this position in the Department of HHBE, a strong record of collaborations with diverse professional communities, including work in narratives and other humanities disciplines related to ethics is an asset.
