Principal Plans Examiner to join the Planning & Community Development Department, Building & Safety Division, in Pasadena, CA . This role is responsible for reviewing and evaluating plans, specifications, and structural calculations to ensure compliance with applicable building codes and state regulations for a variety of commercial projects. The Principal Plans Examiner will lead a team of four and work closely with architects, contractors, and the public, ensuring projects meet rigorous standards for accessibility, safety, and code adherence. This position offers unique opportunities to contribute to high-profile projects, including research-driven initiatives with biomedical labs and the retrofit of a historic library.ResponsibilitiesConduct thorough reviews of plans, specifications, and structural calculations for compliance with building codes and state regulations.Supervise a team of four, providing guidance on code compliance and technical standards.Offer detailed information and guidance to architects, contractors, engineers, and the public on codes, accessibility, and safety standards.Engage in significant projects, such as collaborations with biomedical laboratories and the Grand Central Library retrofit.Promote high standards of customer service through effective communication and problem-solving.Minimum RequirementsProfessional Engineer (PE) license in the State of California.Strong knowledge of building codes, accessibility, and safety standards.Proven experience in leadership and staff supervision.Excellent communication skills for interactions with various stakeholders.Familiarity with local government processes and regulations.SalaryCompetitive annual salary: $139,997 - $174,996, depending on experience and qualifications (DOE/DOQ).
