Safety Manager

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Safety Manager to join our team. This role is critical in coordinating the day-to-day activities of our Safety Department, including managing personnel, safety committees, and safety training programs. The Safety Manager will develop and implement safety guidelines, regulations, and other programs to reduce workplace injuries and illnesses, while ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Safety Manager will assist in the implementation and administration of the company's safety and health management system. This includes developing, enforcing, and overseeing a contractor safety program. The Safety Manager will work closely with design, maintenance, and operations teams to integrate safety measures into new construction, equipment modifications, and facility upgrades, ensuring compliance with safety codes and recommending design changes to mitigate safety hazards.
Additionally, the Safety Manager will support the Director of Safety in implementing emergency action plans and responding as a hazardous waste technician in emergency situations. This role involves conducting regular safety inspections, identifying workplace hazards, and performing air and noise monitoring to ensure a safe environment. The Safety Manager will also develop and implement written safety programs, such as lockout/tagout, confined space, hazard communication, and hearing conservation.
The Safety Manager will be instrumental in the development of behavior-based safety programs, collaborating with management to address unsafe work practices, and enforcing safety policies throughout the facility. This role will also involve investigating accidents, determining root causes, and implementing corrective actions to prevent future incidents. In addition, the Safety Manager will design and deliver safety training programs, as well as maintain accurate training records.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience/Certifications:
Must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Environmental Health & Safety, Environmental Health, Occupational Safety and Health or other closely related curriculum. Proof of degree required (transcript or diploma).
OR Must have other bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university AND five or more years of recent work experience in a safety related field in an industrial environment.
Must have two or more years of experience in Environmental Health and Safety or in Industrial Hygiene related work.
Must exhibit a current valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualification -
Master's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Safety and Health or Industrial Hygiene related field.
Preferred Qualification -
Exhibit certification in Environmental Health or Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or equivalent.
Preferred Qualification -
Exhibit the ability to read and interpret basic blueprints.
Preferred Qualification -
Previous supervisory/leadership experience or training.
Skills & Abilities:
Strong ability to understand and implement federal and state safety regulations.
Ability to use measuring instruments and perform mathematical calculations accurately.
Excellent management, leadership, and organizational skills.
Ability to cooperate well with others and work effectively under stress.
Strong oral and written communication skills with keen attention to detail.
Hours & Work Environment:
Willingness to work extra hours as needed and maintain excellent punctuality and attendance.
Must exhibit the ability to work with confidential information and maintain confidentiality.
Due to the hazardous nature of the job environment (mobile equipment, overhead cranes, etc.), an acceptable level of vision and hearing are required in order to identify and respond to visual and audible warnings in a safe manner.
