The Overtown Youth Center’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) is a new leadership position intentionally designed to complement OYC’s Chief Executive Officer and Chief of Staff at a pivotal moment in the organization’s growth. Reporting to the CEO and serving as a key strategic thought partner in the day-to-day operations of the Overtown Youth Center, the COO will play a vital role in supporting OYC’s sustainability and success.
The COO will provide strategic leadership and daily management of organizational Finance, HR, Development, operational and IT functions, and will be responsible for ensuring that OYC has the internal systems and infrastructure in place to support our teams and enable the organization to continue growing in alignment with the Founders’ and CEO’s vision. At the same time, the COO will be a crucial steward of the organizational values and culture – championing OYC's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion while fostering a culture of innovation, learning, accountability, and continuous improvement. The COO will lead a dedicated group of colleagues equally committed to OYC's shared values.
The ideal candidate is committed to community development; particularly youth and family strengthening and carries an unyielding conviction that transformative change is possible given a consistent and highly accountable system of care. They have significant experience as a cross-functional leader with exceptional strategic and operational acumen and a demonstrated talent for the continuous improvement of organizational teams, systems, and processes. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Leadership
Serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO, ensuring that their strategic vision is successfully operationalized across OYC.
Work collaboratively with OYC’s executive management team to promote overall organizational effectiveness.
Assist CEO in expansion and new initiatives.
Responsible for managing various projects as delegated by CEO.
Ensure effective communication of priority issues and projects and promote organizational learning across the organization.
Assist in leading, mentoring, holding accountable and supervising members of the executive team to foster a culture of collaboration, learning, and innovation across the organization.
Ensure new and current legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting the organization’s 501(c)3 status are adhered to.
Key Functional Area Management
Assist CEO in ensuring key functional areas are processes in place and are in alignment with CEO, Founder and Board visioning and directives.
Responsible for oversight and strategic direction of system implementation to maximize operating efficiencies.
Oversee the design, implementation, execution, and quality control process of development, fiscal, and program controls.
Oversee compliance with lobbying regulations and reporting requirements.
Assist in managing staff relations and contract compliance.
Information Technology
Identify opportunities for improved operational processes across the organization to streamline operations and implement increased standardization across OYC with an eye toward continuous process improvement.
Ensure the necessary technology, security protocols, and office infrastructure are in place to support OYC teams and safeguard data security.
Culture
Cultivate an organizational culture that reflects OYC’s deep commitment to respect, integrity, accountability, diversity, equity, inclusion; underestimated communities of color, children and families, support a learning culture that engenders knowledge sharing, feedback, and continuous growth.
Lead and implement initiatives on best practices in organizational management, performance management, and leadership development.
Requirements:
10+ years of senior management experience working cross-functionally across key functional departments in corporate or complex non-profit organizations.
Commitment to OYC’s mission.
Demonstrated expertise in managing organizational systems.
Proven ability to navigate complex nonprofit compliance and risk management issues.
A strategic, analytical, and tactical thinker, with a record of success implementing strategic goals and priorities across an organization.
Comfort working in a highly collaborative, consensus-driven environment that values open communication and transparency.
Demonstrated passion for managing, developing, and coaching diverse teams; prioritizes building authentic and respectful relationships with all colleagues within an organization.
Ability to steward organizational culture.
Confidence and capability to adapt and lead in a fast-paced, changing environment while also navigating ambiguity and change inherent to a fast-paced, evolving organization.
Effective and persuasive communicator, both oral and written, with exceptional emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills.
