CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
This is a management classification responsible for managing all accounting activities in the Finance Department. The incumbent organizes and oversees day-to-day financial processing, reporting, and record-keeping activities and performs complex accounting duties including preparation of the City-wide budget and financial audit. Responsibilities include performing diverse, specialized, and complex work involving significant accountability and decision-making responsibility. The incumbent organizes and oversees day-to-day activities and is responsible for providing professional-level support to the Finance Director in a variety of areas. Successful performance of the work requires an extensive professional background as well as skill in coordinating departmental work. This class is further distinguished from the Administrative Services Director in that the latter has overall responsibility for all functions of the Department and for developing, implementing, and interpreting public policy.

Veterans are defined in accordance with California Government Code 18973 which states that a "veteran" means any person who has served full time for 30 days or more in the armed forces in time of war or in time of peace in a campaign or expedition for service in which a medal has been authorized by the government of the United States, or during the period September 16, 1940, to January 31, 1955, or who has served at least 181 consecutive days since January 31, 1955, and who has been discharged or released under conditions other than dishonorable, but does not include any person who served only in auxiliary or reserve components of the armed forces whose service therein did not exempt him or her from the operation of the Selective Training and Service Act of 1940.
