Roanoke County Public Schools is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Supervisor of Special Education for the 2024-25 school year. This position will begin interviewing immediately and will remain open until filled.

Position Description/Job Summary: Special Education Supervisors act as a liaison between the schools and PPS, as well as providing guidance and support to schools, programs, and staff in regards to PPS.

Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks - GENERALLY:

Develop and implement professional development to address identified needs based on data and the strategic plan of the school districtSupervise, evaluate, and support special education programs for the school divisionProvides legal advisement and support to school teamsProvide technical assistance (IEP goal development & data sheets, Synergy, Assistive Technology, Homebound/based, testing, 504, transition, etc.)Attend meetings when invited by school personnel (i.e., IEP, child study, eligibility, parent/teacher conferences, etc.)Conduct monthly meetings with building level Special Education Coordinators, Administrators, and staffParticipates in Special Education Advisory Committee for Roanoke County Public SchoolsConduct observations and provide written report of students or staffProvide instructional support and training to both general and special education teachersDirect evaluation of staffServe on Children's Services Act CommitteesServe on various community action committees as the Roanoke Public Schools representativeCollect data for the State performance Plan for special educationCommunicate with staff, administration, and communityAssist administrators, teachers and other support staff of the implementation of IEPs and associated dataSupervise the purchase, use, and safety of instructional materials, equipment, and facilitiesServe as liaison with Private Schools and Residential FacilitiesMonitor local, state, and federal Special Education trends, policies, regulations, and laws by attending and participating in professional conferences and meetingsAssist administration with support of staff with improvement plans.Recruit, interview and make recommendations for employment and placementOther duties as assigned by the Superintendent

Minimum Job Requirements/Qualifications:

Special Education Degree (Master's Level Preferred)

A minimum of five years successful teaching

Previous Coordinator/Department Chair experience

Effective team building and communication skills

Effective organizational skills

This is an 8 hour per day, 260 day position that will be based out of central office but will make visits to the assigned schools on a daily basis.
