Job Responsibilities
With our Agency's mission to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses, we provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina.This full-time position is located at the Department of Mental Health, Anderson-Oconee-Pickens Mental Health Center, 200 McGee Road, Anderson, SC 29625.
This position functions as a Peer Support Specialist. All applicants must be a self-identified consumer of mental health services to be considered.
Applicant must be a current or former patient of mental health services, plus have one-year participation in a local or national patient movement or demonstrate recovery expertise. Related experience as a trainer or presenter preferred. Must possess a valid SC Driver's License. If not already certified as a Peer Support Specialist, must attend mandatory training and certification requirements.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
State Requirement: A high school diploma and relevant human services or social services experience.
Agency Requirements: A high school diploma and relevant human services or social services experience. Applicant must be a current or former patient of mental health services, plus have one-year participation in a local or national patient movement or demonstrate recovery expertise. Related experience as a trainer or presenter preferred. Must possess a valid SC Driver's License. If not already certified as a SC Peer Support Specialist, must attend mandatory training and certification requirements. Must have good computer skills and ability to work set schedule determined by the center.
Knowledge of recovery. Ability to communicate orally and in writing. Effective problem-solving skills and decision-making skills. Will be required to maintain SC Peer Support Certification. Position does require delivery of Peer Support Services to patients in individual, community and group settings. Local travel will be necessary at times to meet patient needs and provide service provision.
Preferred Requirements:
Currently certified as a SC Peer Support Specialist.
