Job Summary
Work is performed for the Highway Department and involves manual labor of an unskilled nature including both heavy and light physical labor in a wide variety of county activities. The position may occasionally include the performance of semi-skilled tasks that may be learned on the job.
Operates standard road machines (jackhammers, cement vibrators, mixers, striping machines, tools, etc.) and medium to light equipment in the performance of manuals work associated with the construction and maintenance of county rights-of-way, roads, ditches, and storm sewers.Performs routine maintenance of machines, equipment, and tools used.Loads and unloads dirt, construction material and supplies from trucks and other vehicles.Cuts grass, weeds, and brush and clears job sites with hands tools and weed eaters.Cleans culverts, drains, and ditches.Loads and unloads trucks of tools, materials, and debris.Assists in the maintenance of county paved and dirt roads.Spreads sand, gravel, and asphalt.Removes obstructions, such as trees, from roads using hand and power saws.Carries sand, concrete, asphalt and cement.Applies patching materials to road surfaces.Flags and directs traffic during road construction.Assists skilled workers by carrying materials and tools, or performing unskilled tasks such as mixing mortar or drilling holes.Digs post holes and posts and removes road signs and fencing.Performs all duties in a safe and efficient manner.Performs all other duties as assigned by supervision.Qualifications and Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Six months of general labor experience, including the use of tools and equipment used in construction, maintenance and repair work.Valid Driver's LicensePREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is mostly performed outdoors in all types of weather (i.e., rain, storms, extreme hot and cold temperatures).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work is heavy in nature and consists of walking, bending, lifting, shoveling, carrying up to 60 pounds unassisted and driving a vehicle.
