This class provides professional planning services with a focus on GIS (Geographic Information Systems) programming, mapping, and data management.As assigned, work may include: creating new mapping products; creating ArcGIS Online applications to support field data collection; creating scripts to automate tasks; updating and editing data and mapping products; responding to information requests; creating and maintaining documentation; integrating GIS data into other systems and databases; performing database maintenance procedures; using ArcGIS Urban for plan analysis and public engagement, creating 3D models, and conducting demographic analysis.Supervision Exercised/Received:Exercised:

TYPICAL CLASS ESSENTIAL DUTIES: These duties and percentage of time are a representative sample; position assignments may vary. Typical Percentage of Time (none less than 10%)Performs data analysis; determines best approach to the analysis; troubleshoots and selects appropriate solution; reports results in best manner possible.

30%Responds to inquiries and requests from internal and external customers for mapping and data products.

30%Manages and maintains databases to ensure accuracy and functionality; maintains certain maps and datafiles; updates existing GIS databases based on new information.

20%Edits and updates other forms of data and information as needed . 10%Assists in in the preparation and adoption of citywide, district, and community land use plans as well as the zoning ordinance and policies necessary to implement such plans.

Qualifications, Special Certifications and Licenses

Bachelor's degree in urban planning, civil or environmental engineering, landscape architecture, geography, geographical information systems, or a related fieldThree years of experience or an equivalent amount of graduate level training.An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classificationLICENSING,
