What you’ll do
We're looking for a Technical Architect III - Application Development Support to join the ArcBest team. The Technical Architect III - Application Development Support involves collaborative work to provide support and expertise in System Administration, DevOps Engineering, Information Security, Application Development, Software Development, and Cloud Architecture. This mid-level position is ideal for individuals with experience in multiple areas, expertise in at least one, and a willingness to expand and grow their knowledge.
Your contribution may include:
Provide Application Development support for ABTech Application Development and Data Science personnel including, but not limited to, aiding professional developers with system design, implementation, and troubleshooting.
Provide DevOps Engineering support for ABTech Application Development and Data Science personnel including, but not limited to, implementation and management of Azure DevOps and Octopus Deploy pipelines.
Provide System Administration support for various on-premises software packages including, but not limited to, research, installation, vulnerability management, and lifecycle management.
Provide Cloud Architecture support for various cloud infrastructure strategies and services including, but not limited to, research, configuration, and lifecycle management.
Review, recommend, implement, and optimize software to provide infrastructure services related to application development.
Research new and emerging technologies and make recommendations for system improvements.
Collaborate with Information Security to ensure that IT security measures are in place and current in both on-premise and cloud infrastructures.
Collaborate with various teams within ArcBest Technologies on information system design and implementation.
Develop and support ABTech system level utility applications and applications to support internal technical services processes.
Establish backup and recovery strategies and procedures for daily activities, disaster recovery, and ransomware recovery.
Assist with training new Technical Services Application Development Support personnel.
Other duties and projects, as assigned.
As a Technical Architect III - Application Development Support, you will be a member of the ArcBest Technical Services team in Fort Smith, AR. Your hours will be Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, with irregular hours that may occur depending on workload. A flexible working schedule of nine-hour workdays with one day off every two weeks is available after six months of employment subject to approval by the supervising Director. This position is also subject to 24 hour on-call responsibilities on a rotating basis and availability, as needed.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems or equivalent experience, preferred.
Experience: Minimum, 4 years' experience as a developer in a Microsoft .NET environment, preferably in ABTech.
Computer Skills:
Proficiency in web application programming technologies such as Microsoft .NET, Python, and JavaScript.
Proficiency in scripting languages like PowerShell or BASH.
Broad understanding of web application architecture.
Broad understanding of server hardware and software, including Microsoft server products and Linux.
Working knowledge of network technologies (TCP/IP, etc.)
Broad understanding of Infrastructure As Code (IaC) tooling such as Desired State Configuration, Bicep Templates, and Terraform.
Proficiency in DevOps practices related to building, deploying, configuring, and auditing various application types across multiple disciplines and platforms.
Working knowledge of application load balancing techniques for both on-premises and cloud applications.
Working knowledge of cloud and on-premises architecture principles such as fault tolerance, scalability, security, manageability, and improved consistency and efficiency through automation.
