With over 100,000 SKUs, General Fasteners Company (GFC) is a full-service distributor for a wide range of Fastener and Assembly Components in over 40 product categories. More than half of the items we supply are specifically engineered for our customer's unique applications, and many are non-fastener items such as stampings, molded plastics and composites, mechanical assemblies, kits of various configurations, fittings, private labeled products, and many more. We work with over 800 suppliers from around the globe to offer customers a one-stop shop for their Assembly component needs.
You will be tasked with solving applications related issues in the world of fasteners and assembly components. This position will challenge your ability to analyze, theorize, develop, and deploy fastening strategies to help our customers save money, improve their designs, and solve their fastening application problems. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Analyze product and/or equipment specifications and performance requirements
Recommend/assess designs to provide robust, cost-effective solutions
Prepare/coordinate testing and drawing services for customers
Compile and analyze operational, test, and research data to recommend performance standards for newly designed and/or existing products
Proactively support all customer and internal cost savings efforts.
Participate in customer Value Analysis/Value Engineering events
Prepare reports for design and value analysis
Collaboratively work with and participate in the continuous improvement of our quality department and systems
Confer with Quality Assurance personnel to clarify and resolve problems as they are related to component design
Study and participate in the development of our core markets and industries including automotive, heavy truck, autonomous vehicles, electronics, military transports, recreation vehicles and more.
Obtain and communicate technical information concerning manufacturing or processing techniques, materials, properties, and process advantages and limitations.
Increase industry awareness about the Engineering Center by participating in promotional efforts and capability presentations.
Maintain an awareness of industry trends in fastener manufacture, assembly, and testing through supplier/customer visits, training, etc.
Work in accordance with the GFC Quality System and proactively participate in the continuous improvement of that system.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES:
Experience with Microsoft Office: Outlook, Excel & Word
Possess a customer focused attitude
Possess strong mechanical and technical aptitude
Ability to organize resources and establish priorities
Ability to gather data, compile information and prepare comprehensive reports
Ability to effectively present information to internal and external customers
Strong attention to detail and accuracy while meeting deadlines
Must be self-directed and possess a high level of personal organization and drive
Possess excellent communication skills including verbal, written and interpersonal
Interact well with employees at all levels within the organization and be able to build and maintain positive working relationships
Willingness and ability to be flexible and adapt to changing job requirements
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Associates Degree in a Mechanical or Materials Science Engineering
2+ years of experience developing fastening solutions or solving critical application issues in the manufacturing environment
