About the Role
Volunteer Role Summary: We are seeking volunteer working board members who are passionate about helping animals and have the time and motivation to join our active and ambitious leadership team. New volunteers in this role will take lead on key workstream efforts and ensure a good fit with other board members before being formally nominated for the board. We need a lot of help and therefore we are seeking experienced leaders to donate at least four hours a week for at least 6 months to tackle this ambitious and important work. Our Leadership Team meets biweekly, typically on a weekday at 5PM or 6PM Pacific time. Candidates with Startup experience or experience dealing with ambiguity and building from scratch highly preferred. Volunteer Primary Responsibilities: Lead fundraising efforts and/or outreach/networking efforts Prepare for and participate in official board meetings, including self-review of Board performance Utilize your own network to bring in partners, donors, or volunteers Act as an ambassador on behalf of Hostel As a board member, you are expected to contribute an amount that is personally significant/meaningful to you Specializations We are looking for some board members with expertise to fill specific officer positions. Please indicate in your application if you have an interest in these roles: Treasurer - requires creating and reviewing financial goals, reports, projections, and budgets etc. Legal - requires familiarity with Mexico / US nonprofit regulations Secretary - requires managing overall administration for the Board President - requires leading the Board. Must have prior board experience. Currently the founder serves in this position but would like to focus more with work on the ground in Mexico. Public Relations Qualifications/Skills Bachelor's degree OR 3-5 years of experience in related field Ability to make strategic decisions in ambiguity and bring clarity to goals Ability to work effectively with volunteers and diverse stakeholders Ability to work independently and asynchronously in a remote environment Previous startup and nonprofit experience, especially in building out marketing functions is preferred
