Volunteer Treasurer – Nonprofit Board Member

The Treasurer plays a critical role in maintaining the financial health and accountability of the organization. This is a meaningful opportunity to contribute your skills to a dedicated, mission-driven team.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the organization’s financial management and ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director (or staff) to review and monitor budgets, financial reports, and accounting practices.
- Present financial updates at board meetings, including monthly financial statements and reports.
- Lead the preparation of the annual budget and participate in strategic financial planning.
- Ensure accurate and timely filing of required tax forms, such as IRS Form 990.
- Serve as a resource for board members on financial matters and best practices.
Qualifications:
- Background in finance, accounting, or a related field (CPA or equivalent experience preferred but not required).
- Familiarity with nonprofit financial management and reporting (or a willingness to learn).
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in financial software or accounting tools (e.g., QuickBooks, Excel).
- Commitment to the mission and goals of the organization.
Time Commitment:
This role requires approximately 5-7 hours per month, including attendance at regular board meetings typically held monthly and occasional financial reviews for updates and strategics moves forward. FInancial updates and follow ups will be 20 minutes or less.
