The Work Unit:
The Aurora Emissions Technical Center and High Altitude Lab (AETC) provides crucial technical assistance to the Mobile Sources Section of the Air Pollution Control Division. This unit plays a significant role in maintaining air quality by providing field support and technical assistance to the general public, affected businesses, and the Dept. of Revenue for Colorado Air Quality Commission Regulations on gasoline and diesel motor vehicle inspection programs, alternative fuels, retrofit programs, and oxygenated fuels. The unit's high-altitude mass emission testing of motor vehicles is instrumental in collecting in-use vehicle emissions data for air quality modeling, development, and evaluation of mobile source emissions reduction strategies, and in cooperation with the Environmental Protection Agency, the assessment of motor vehicle compliance with high altitude emissions standards for recall purposes.
What you will be doing
This position is dedicated to providing crucial administrative support and assistance to the supervisor and staff of the Aurora Emissions Technical Center (AETC) and the Mobile Source Program (MSP). The role involves interpreting administrative rules, regulations, and processes using state and program guidelines, and overseeing work performed by contractor-employed staff. As the primary point of contact for the Technical Center supervisor, this position is integral to the smooth operation of the office. The role also involves procuring building supplies, scheduling building maintenance, monitoring office equipment, and scheduling maintenance as necessary. Additionally, the position proctors certification examinations outlined in AQCC Regulations 11 and 12, and provides technical assistance and support to motorists, automotive service technicians, automotive repair facilities, and the Department of Revenue.
Job Duties:
Greet and assist customers with cheerful professionalism
Respond to telephone/walk-in inquiries from motorists and service technicians by interpreting and clarifying Mobile Source Program rules, regulations, and practices. The position provides guidance and support and offers to schedule free technical evaluations to motorists seeking assistance with AQCC Regulations 11, 12, and 20. The position maintains a shared calendar of appointments and follows up with confirmation communications. This position maintains a log of phone calls and provides data for program-specific statistical reports. The position schedules laboratory study vehicles, works with vehicle owners to schedule rental cars, and advises owners of study details.
Manage day to day Technical Center Operations
This position oversees, prioritizes, organizes, and establishes office processes for various technical center operations on behalf of The Technical Center supervisor as part of a collaborative team. The position procures building services/supplies and monitors and schedules services for office equipment as needed. The position maintains and revises operational budget spreadsheets. The position performs administrative and budget issue research and provides informed results to the Technical Center supervisor and professional staff.
Attend and document staff meetings
This position makes a valuable contribution to monthly staff meetings hosted at various locations around the Denver Metro Area. It records and disseminates notes amongst staff, ensuring effective communication within the organization. It also reviews, develops, and updates the office policy and procedure manual, further enhancing the organization's communication. This position hosts or attends occasional unit-wide gatherings and contributes organizational effort when needed, fostering a sense of involvement in the organization's activities.
Other Duties as Assigned
Attends meetings, serves on task forces or teams, completes projects, and performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
