Minimum Qualifications
Completion of 60 semester credits to include 15 semester credits in Computer Science, Cartography, Geography or related field. One year of experience in interpreting as-built information and transferring as-built data to the GIS to include quality control and quality assurance review. Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

This is an advanced technical position with the Geospatial Technologies Division of the Information Technology Department (ITD), in support of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) infrastructure data maintenance for the Miami-Dade Water & Sewer Department (WASD). Job components include performing GIS quality assurance tasks to ensure water and sewer infrastructure GIS layers are updated according to as-builts, field books, verified data correction requests and other departmental approved sources. An employee in this class assembles database information for incorporation into the computerized Geographic Information System, conducting research and analyzing field reports to produce accurate information on the location and nature of water and sewer facilities, supervising the updating of atlases, and relaying information to other departmental work units to effect repairs where they are found necessary. The W&S GIS Quality Assurant Specialist role exercises considerable independent judgment in identifying differences between existing drawings of acquired water and sewer facilities and actual structures in the field. Supervision is received from an administrative superior who reviews work for achievement of established goals and objectives.
