Salary Range:

This position is located on the Peoria campus 170 miles southwestof Chicago. (On-Site Work - Not Remote).
The University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria(UICOMP) educates 265 medical students and more than 300 physician residentsand fellows annually. Additionally, it provides clinical care to more than31,000 patients annually and conducts basic science, clinical and outcomesresearch. UICOMP is a regional campus of the University of Illinois College ofMedicine, a part of the University of Illinois Chicago and University ofIllinois System. Position Summary Primary function of Staff Nurse 1 is direct patient care to our HIV population, patients seeking Gender affirming care, Prep, Infectious Disease and general primary care, by assisting in the daily activities of clinic operation. Responsibilities include providing education for the patient and legal guardian when appropriate, triaging phone calls, refilling medications (under direction of Provider), preparing patient for clinic appointment. The Staff Nurse I works under general supervision.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Educating patient and/or family regarding disease process and medication management.- Triage patient phone calls and consult with Provider when needed- Refill medication (under direction of Provider), and work with pharmacies and insurance to obtain Prior Authorizations when needed- Follows established protocol for ordering required labs- Document information in patient Electronic Medical Record (EMR)- Obtains specimens including blood and urine - Schedules tests, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as ordered by Provider- Complete referrals as ordered by the provider- Takes and records patient vital signs including blood pressure, height weight, temperature, pulse and notifies Provider of significant changes- Report any changes in patient to provider -Maintains a team centered approach to patient care by working closely with fellow nursing staff, Case Managers and Support Staff to take care of patient needs.-Maintains a good working relationship with Providers, by communicating patient needs and efficiently responding to Provider requests for patient care follow up. -Work on CQI projects under direction of Administrative RN II to ensure compliance with HRSA funding.-Provides input into unit deficiencies, procedure revisions-Assists with reporting as necessary. -Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications Eligibility for licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation. Current AHA BLS/CPR and other required unit specific certifications Effective communication skills (oral and written) that facilitate therapeutic relationships between patients, family, and health care providers Intermediate computer skills with the ability to become proficient in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) with on-the-job training Excellent attendance, interpersonal skills and work history required.
Experience working with diverse population preferred
Preferred ability to perform at an intermediate level with computer skills. Experience with Epic preferred
Preferred ability to perform multiple tasks and assess/triage patient situations to determine the level of need.
