Network Engineer

The Network Engineer ensures that the computer network performs efficiently by identifying network requirements; directing installations and installing upgrades; monitoring overall network performance. The engineer also ensures that the computer network is secure from internal and external threats by identifying physical and electronic security requirements, installing security products or services, installing security updates, and monitoring security events. Operates with a high degree of independence. Reports to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO).

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSIdentifies network specifications by conferring with CAO, Network Engineer, Systems Engineer, and users. Analyzing workflow, access, information, and security requirements, designing router administration, including interface configuration and routing protocols.Establishes network environment by evaluating overall performance issues including availability, utilization, throughput, and latency, planning, and executing the selection, installation, configuration, and testing of equipment, defining network policies, and procedures, establishing internal and external connections.Implements network security by evaluating internal and external controls that may include firewalls or other network-based security products or services, endpoint security products or services, physical access control measures, planning and executing the selection, installation, configuration, and testing of such products and services, defining network security policies, and procedures.Maintains network performance by performing network monitoring and analysis, and performance tuning, troubleshooting network problems, and escalating problems to vendor as applicable.Maintains network security by performing security events, security log monitoring, and analysis, formulates response, and remediation for discovered attacks, escalating problems to vendor(s) as applicable.Serves as the highest support level for Help Desk issues dealing with networks and security.Prepares Help Desk by designing and conducting training programs, providing references and support.Upgrades network, including security aspects, by conferring with vendors, developing, testing, evaluating, and installing enhancements.Monitors and maintains electronic security hardware such as firewall appliances, proxy servers and camera systems.Monitors and maintains security software and services such as secure email gateways, secure internet gateways, anti-virus software, virus/malware removal software, imaging software and remote access utilities.Monitors and maintains physical security systems such as computer room/closet access, group home and remote office "black boxes" and security keypad and badging access systems.Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Requires a Bachelor's degree in information technology or a related field and 3 years of related experience in the support of networks and network connected devices; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.Requires a valid driver's license.Areas of knowledge/experience: Network Performance Tuning, LAN Knowledge, Network Design and Implementation, Network Operations Systems Knowledge, Network Security Knowledge, Problem Solving, Strategic PlanningDemonstrated ability to multi-task, demonstrate quality customer service focus, and technical understandingCISCO certification (CISCO Certified Network Administrator) is preferredCOMPENSATION

$70,000 up to $90,000 ; commensurate with experience and qualifications.
