Job Summary

This position manages a team of two and leads the employee relations function. It is a subject matter expert on employment laws and regulations as well HR best practices to mitigate risk and enhance the employee experience. Using a working knowledge of applicable employment laws and HR best practices, this position provides guidance and recommends solutions to business leaders and employees on, among other things, policy and practice interpretation, performance management, job eliminations and other terminations, conflict resolution, and disciplinary actions. It also analyzes trends in Human Resources issues and proactively recommends supportive actions and programs. This position designs, leads and executes special projects that may have company-wide impact: conduct information-gathering, develops project scope and design, involves appropriate resources, develops communication and change management tools as needed, and ensures that projects are completed on schedule. Additionally, plays a critical role in designing and delivering training to business leaders and employees on employee relations related topics. It partners closely with the HR Centers of Excellence, Client Relations and other departments throughout the Enterprise.

Job Responsibilities

Concern management- Lead the proactive resolution of employee concerns and workplace conflicts, utilizing expertise to make recommendations, mitigate risk, and ensure consistent application of policies and procedures as well as compliance with employment laws and regulations. Lead the Employee Relations Review Program (ERRP), the Company's alternative dispute resolution program for employees who are not union-represented

Disciplinary action - Lead the Company’s disciplinary review process, utilizing expertise to mitigate risk and ensure a consistent and equitable process has been applied to disciplinary actions across the Enterprise in compliance with employment laws and regulations

HR policies and practices - Develop and lead the successful implementation and communication rollout of HR policies, practices, and processes based upon law, trends, benchmarking, and the need to attract, develop, and retain a high-performing diverse workforce. Review, assess, and update HR policies, practices, and processes for effectiveness and compliance. Develop and lead implementation of Enterprise flexible work model, measuring success through quantitative and qualitative analytics. Design and deliver communications and training to educate employees and people managers on HR Policy and practice-related employee relations related topics.Lead employee relations projects and/or act as the employee relations representative of other HR-related projects.

Data analytics -Lead analysis of employee relations matters to identify areas of risk, and trends or situations, that require attention and recommend and implement solutions (e.g., training, counseling, policy management).

Develop, modify, and maintain tracking tools and reports which identify employee relations trends and issues to be addressed

HR compliance -Lead compliance with legal requirements in the hiring process, including I-9 compliance and matters referred from Talent Acquisition. Lead compliance with state and federal workplace notice and posting requirements. Respond to HR-related questions and issues from employees and people managers on topics such as policy and practice interpretation, discipline, workforce restructures, workplace conflicts, job eliminations, and other terminations to ensure accurate and consistent application of policies and procedures and to maintain compliance with employment laws and regulations

Job Specific Qualifications

Required:

Bachelor's degree with 8 years experience in Employee Relations or similar

At least 8 years’ experience working in an Employee Relations, Concern Management or similar role

Familiarity with a union environment

Knowledge of state and federal employment laws and HR best practices

Excellent communication, decision making and problem-solving skills

Strong project management skills

Strong relationship management and influencing skills including interacting with senior leaders

Ability to analyze complex situations and make recommendations

Excellent conflict resolution and negotiation skills

Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment

Ability to lead cross-functional teams

Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality regarding employee information

Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (including SharePoint, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Desired:

Advanced professional degree in related field, such as JD with employment law focus or Masters with HR-related concentration.
