Accounting Manager for a Consumer Goods company focused on fashion retail, in Los Angeles.Client DetailsOur client is a fashion company in Los Angeles. They have a strong brand presence and customer following. They hold an international reach and are looking to add to their finance and accounting team.DescriptionFinancial Reporting:Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.Review and ensure compliance with accounting standards (GAAP or IFRS) in financial reporting.Prepare and present financial reports to senior management for decision-making and strategic planning.
Month-End & Year-End Closing:Manage the month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring all financial transactions are recorded and reconciled.Review general ledger entries and journal entries to ensure accuracy and completeness.Ensure proper documentation and supporting evidence for financial transactions during the close process.
Inventory Accounting:Oversee inventory management and accounting, ensuring accurate valuation of inventory and cost of goods sold (COGS).Collaborate with operations and merchandising teams to monitor inventory levels, margins, and turnover rates.Perform regular inventory reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
Accounts Payable & Receivable:Supervise accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, ensuring timely processing and accurate recording of transactions.Monitor and manage vendor and customer payments, ensuring compliance with payment terms.Develop strategies to optimize cash flow and manage working capital effectively.
Internal Controls & Compliance:Establish and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with financial regulations.Conduct regular audits of financial transactions and internal processes to detect and prevent errors or fraud.Ensure compliance with tax regulations, including preparation and filing of tax returns, and coordinate with external auditors during audits.
Team Leadership & Development:Supervise and mentor the accounting team, providing guidance, support, and training to ensure high performance and professional growth.Allocate resources effectively to ensure all accounting functions are carried out efficiently and within deadlines.Conduct regular performance reviews and provide feedback to team members.
System & Process Improvement:
Evaluate and improve accounting processes, systems, and workflows to increase efficiency and reduce errors.Implement and optimize accounting software and tools, ensuring the team uses the most effective systems.Work with IT and other departments to ensure seamless integration between accounting systems and other business functions.Profile
Education:Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.CPA or CMA certification is preferred.
Experience:5+ years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a managerial or leadership role, preferably within the retail or consumer goods industry.Strong experience with inventory accounting, cost of goods sold (COGS), and retail financials.Experience with financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.Proficient in using accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, SAP) and advanced Excel skills.
Skills & Abilities:Strong knowledge of GAAP and accounting principles.Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data.Detail-oriented, with strong organizational and time management skills.Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop a team.
