The Admission Department seeks a motivated and dynamic Admission Counselor to enhance the College’s national visibility by recruiting a diverse student body in the visual and performing arts. This role also helps develop outreach programs and build relationships to promote the College’s academic and artistic offerings to prospective students. This role is expected to be focused on the Visual Arts at Cornish, including Art, Design, and Film & Media.The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills and thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment. The candidate should be self-driven, highly organized, innovative, and adept at managing multiple projects and priorities efficiently. Represent the College at various on-and off-campus events to engage prospective students, their families, high school counselors, and community organizations involved in the college decision-making process.Collaborate with the Director of Admissions to design and execute recruitment initiatives for assigned high schools and regions across Washington and other states:
Coordinate and schedule high school visits and classroom presentations.Plan and arrange travel logistics for these and other recruiting events.
Offer personalized admissions counseling to prospective first-year and transfer students, guiding them through the admission process and highlighting opportunities at the College:
Lead campus tours and facilitate one-on-one meetings with prospective students and their families.Conduct proactive daily outreach through phone calls, emails and text messages to build relationships with prospective students.Review and evaluate Visual Arts portfolios during on- and off-campus events for this specific position, which is focused on Visual Arts applicants.
Review and assess applicant’s materials to determine admissions decisions, ensuring alignment with the College's admittance criteria:
Liaise with the Academic Departments to review audition or portfolio evaluations when necessary.
Work closely with the Director of Admissions to support strategic communications with high school and independent counselors through various channels including email, print, and digital media:
Contribute to the planning and execution of on-and-off campus events designed to engage high school counselors and prospective students.
Support students and families through the financial aid process by:
Answering general inquiries and providing basic guidance.Reviewing and explaining financial aid award letters.Referring families to the appropriate financial aid staff for more detailed assistance.
Participate in campus-wide events such as Open House and early orientation programs which will occasionally require evening or weekend work.Other duties as assigned.Minimum QualificationsBachelor’s degree required, with preference for Bachelor of Fine Arts.Demonstrable effective verbal and written communication skills, with verifiable experience in public speaking.Proven self-motivation, demonstrated organizational skills and a track record of a results-driven approach to meeting recruitment goals.Demonstrated ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and as a team member.Verifiable ability to problem solve and use good judgment to make quick decisions.Proven ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.Demonstrated customer service skills (i.e., pleasant, courteous, professional voice and manner).Track record of willingness to travel both in-state and out-of-state frequently, approximately 10 weeks per year.Verifiable commitment to multicultural perspectives and ability to relate well with a diverse community.Must have a valid Washington State driver’s license and safe driving record – including but not limited to, no at-fault accidents, moving violations, driving-related criminal convictions, points on license.Must pass background check.Demonstrated ability to work and travel on weekends.Verifiable ability to frequently lift, push, pull, move, and carry up to 40 lbs unassisted.Preferred QualificationsAt least one (1) year of experience in admissions, student recruitment or a related field.Educational background or professional experience in an artistic discipline.Experience working in a not-for-profit, higher education or arts environment.Department : AdmissionReports To : Director of AdmissionSupervises : N/APay Grade : Non-exempt; Full-timePay:
