Job Summary

At Ascend, our Human Resources Generalist is more than just a role; it's an opportunity to contribute to the heart of our company culture and success. This pivotal role serves as the cornerstone of our HR department and the entire organization by performing a wide range of essential functions. From providing daily support to the HR Manager, reporting, onboarding and offboarding, internal employee payroll, answering helpdesk tickets and research, the HR Generalist plays a critical role in enhancing our employee experience and maintaining operational excellence.

Essential Functions & Duties

  • Actively participate in department meetings, offering valuable insights and ideas while demonstrating a positive attitude and a proactive approach to completing tasks promptly.
  • Internal payroll responsibilities include preparation of reports and calculation of bonuses, consistent monitoring of deductions including insurance, 401(k), garnishments, etc., with attention to detail and confidentiality.
  • Provide confidential administrative support to management and staff, including drafting documents & letters, managing communications, and other requested services.
  • Submit weekly/bi-weekly reports on new hires and upload work verification reports to external systems.
  • Gain knowledge of and oversee Ascend's health and wellness benefits and assist in facilitating an annual open enrollment process for internal staff.
  • Assist in entering, reconciling, and processing bills for H.S.A. accounts and 401(k) contributions, demonstrating analytical skills and financial acumen.
  • Provide support to internal staff in the branch offices with matters that may entail research, investigations, and attention to detail.
  • Schedule and conduct stay and exit interviews while building and maintaining relationships with internal employees.
  • Perform additional tasks or projects as assigned by the HR team, adapting to evolving departmental needs.
Skills & Qualifications
  • Preferred: at least 1-2 years of experience in a Human Resources role, with a demonstrated track record of success and verifiable references.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and experience with HRIS systems preferred, reflecting the ability to manage data effectively.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to engage professionally across all levels of the organization.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, with the capability to multi-task and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Analytical thinker with intermediate math skills and proficiency in Excel, capable of conducting financial and data analysis as needed.
  • Proactive in participating in departmental meetings, with excellent follow-up skills and a keen eye for detail.
  • Team player with a willingness to support colleagues and contribute to a positive working environment.
  • Self-starter who takes initiative in learning new tasks and can operate with minimal supervision.
  • Discretion with confidential information and an understanding of the importance of data privacy.
  • Knowledge of employment laws related to benefits, with the ability to research and apply this knowledge effectively.
  • Ability to identify and escalate issues appropriately and de-escalate situations when needed.
