Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Director of Finance, the Project Accountant is primarily responsible for managing the full cycle of accounting for each Insight Housing construction project. This includes overseeing the project's development, construction, and cost certification. The Project Accountant will also maintain the integrity of the general ledger by preparing, verifying, and inputting journal entries, as well as conducting account analyses as needed. Additionally, they will serve as the system administrator for the company's credit system, ensuring control and reviewing transition errors for the monthly credit card process.
Essential DutiesManage full-cycle accounting for each construction project.Prepare and analyze construction financial statements (monthly, quarterly, and annual).Record and reconcile transactions for accuracy for each construction project cost.Manage construction accounts payable, pay construction vendors, and handle vendor disputes.Review the outstanding construction checklist for stale checks and follow up with vendors.Collaborate effectively with the real estate development team to prepare construction reimbursement draws for each project and timely collection of draw payments.Reconcile construction bank cash and investment accounts by the 5th business day of each month.Track project costs and cash flow and update cash flow reports.Attend weekly Real Estate Development and Finance meeting and provide updates as needed.Ensure tax and contractor licensing compliance, including filings.Manage annual welfare exemption filling.Assist in budgeting, forecasting, cost certification, and audit preparations.Assist with implementing the new Company credit card process.Responsible for administration of the company credit card process.Maintain and lead the general ledger reconciliation for construction projects, including account analysis, resolving accounting discrepancies, approving AP journal entries, preparing subsidiary schedules with proper supporting documentation, and preparing monthly and year-end journal entries.Assist with developing or modifying policies and procedures as required.Participate in promoting a safe, healthy, clean working environment consistent with the agency's health and safety practices.Attend and participate in all meetings and training assigned.Complete and submit timesheets promptly and accurately.Work within the framework of Insight Housing's Code of Conduct.Perform other tasks and projects assigned.Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities
Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field is required, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.Minimum of 3 years' experience in general ledger accounting.Commitment to serving individuals experiencing homelessness. Understanding of and sensitivity to issues related to homeless, low income, mentally disabled, and chemically dependent personsPrevious nonprofit experience; specific experience overseeing government contracts (SSVF, DOL, etc.) a plus.Advanced knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting concepts, particularly in programmatic cost allocations and reporting requirements and procedures related to federal, state, and other related grants, cost accounting, A122/A133/OMB Super Circular.Proficiency in Microsoft Office, email, internet, and calendaring applications. Experience with Netsuite is highly preferred.Ability to interact in a supportive and professional manner with staff and clients of diverse cultural and economic backgrounds.Ability to provide good customer service. Communicate effectively and maintain a calm demeanor in stressful situations.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Excellent interpersonal skills with a can-do and flexible attitude.Ability to exercise independent judgment.Ability to work with minimal supervision, multi-task, maintain confidentiality, and meet deadlines.Ability to maintain professional conduct, attitude, and appearance at all times.Special Requirements
This position may require occasional driving. A valid California driver's license, reliable personal vehicle, current personal auto insurance as required by law, and an MVR sufficient to obtain and reasonably maintain insurability under agency auto liability policies.Must be able to receive and maintain clearance for criminal and credit records.Physical Requirements
