Summary Objective
The purpose of this position is to supervise engineering projects, survey or field operations and activities. This class works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings. Examples of Duties
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary. • Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals. • Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed. • Enforces safety procedures to ensure safe operation of equipment and employee safety. • Prepares and submits cost estimates including equipment, materials, time and number of employees. • Conducts on-site inspections to review and inspect the progress or completion of projects, to determine equipment and materials, to discuss work assignments and problems, and to investigate and resolve complaints. • Supervises the engineering function of construction projects. • Reviews and assigns engineering projects, surveys and field investigations, and approves construction and site plans for compliance to engineering standards. • Attends meetings and provides information on engineering projects. • Prepares and negotiates engineering construction contracts.
Minimum Requirements
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Urban Planning or related discipline. • Four (4) years of engineering experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
OTHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS • Must wear safety equipment as mandated by OSHA. • Must be an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) and be eligible to apply and take the Professional Engineer (PE) exam in the state of Kentucky. • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement. • Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.
UNAVOIDABLE HAZARDS (WORK ENVIRONMENT)
Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
