The Kennedy Krieger School Program includes a number of programs that offer services to children with learning challenges. Students aged 5-21 receive instruction that focuses on the development of academic, social, emotional, and behavioral skills in an environment that recognizes and capitalizes on the individual strengths of each child. Kennedy Krieger School Programs | Kennedy Krieger Institute
The position will require the nurse to work at Fairmount’s lower/middle school and the high school when needed.
Responsibilities
Maintains a cumulative health record on each student.
Implements the nursing process to develop individualized health care plans, emergency action plans, and bus plans as needed for students with special health concerns.
Administers medications in accordance with the Institute’s School Medication Administration Policy.
Utilizes principles of safety and infection control.
Administers first aid and treats illnesses in accordance with the standards of the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
Assures that all students are in compliance with the Maryland state law for immunizations.
Maintains and organizes medical equipment and supplies for the school health suite.
Assists with and/or provides annual hearing and vision screenings in accordance with State law requirements for local jurisdiction.
Monitors height, weight, pulse, and blood pressure of designated students.
Completes follow-up on occurrences in the HealthCare Safety Zone.
Documents in databases and health records per school guidelines.
Serves as a liaison between family, school personnel, and health care providers.
Qualifications
Current registered nurse licensure in the State of Maryland required.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR certification required.
Current Maryland Board of Nursing CM/DN certification required.
Must successfully complete PCM Training course within 12 months of hire.
EDUCATION:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited school required or enrolled in a BSN program to be completed within two years of hiring date.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of two years of clinical and/or pediatric experience required.
Minimum of one year of school health experience required.
