This position exists to support syndromic surveillance, including the reporting of electronic health data, to progress toward comprehensive surveillance of healthcare visits and making these data available at the local level.
Responsibilities Include:
Creating automated reports that identify recent trends in hospital utilization and capacity.
Summarize recent alerts for reported causes of healthcare visits by chief complaint or discharge diagnoses inform situational awareness and public health action.
Enhance organizational capacity and increase knowledge on trends by creating and publishing datasets and dashboards using syndromic surveillance data related to COVID-19 and other identified or emerging public health topics.
Support onboarding and ongoing data quality monitoring of syndromic surveillance data from electronic health records, Poison Control System, and other syndromic surveillance data sources.
This position is eligible for telework applicants who reside in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, North Dakota, or South Dakota. Position locations will be determined by the top candidate and will be based out of one of the following MDH district office locations: St. Paul, St. Cloud, Duluth, Rochester, Marshall, Mankato, Bemidji, or Fergus Falls. Reimbursement for authorized business travel expenses is provided according to bargaining unit guidelines.
Minimum Qualifications
To facilitate proper years of service crediting, please ensure that your resume clearly describes your experience in the areas listed and indicates the beginning and ending month and year for each job held.
Three (3) years of experience conducting research including statistical and/or quantitative analysis within the fields of epidemiology, biostatistics, social work, psychology, or related field. Experience must include the following:
Use of programming, statistical, or data visualization software such as SAS, R, Tableau, or Power BI sufficient to complete data analyses and visualizations.
Minimum qualifications to be assessed during the interview process:
Knowledge of principles and practices of research and surveillance sufficient to determine methodologies for different approaches.
Knowledge of statistical and epidemiologic methods and their applications and limitations sufficient to conduct an analysis resulting in summary information.
Written and oral communication skills sufficient to clearly communicate findings in written and verbal formats.
A related associate degree may be substituted for six (6) months of experience. A related bachelor's degree may be substituted for one (1) year of experience. A related master's degree may be substituted for one and a half (1.5) years of experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience analyzing and interpreting quantitative and qualitative data.
Experience utilizing syndromic surveillance data, working with hospital discharge data, and/or death certificate/mortality data.
Demonstrated ability to maintain effective working relationships with professional health personnel.
Demonstrated ability to work independently without day-to-day supervision of activities.
Additional Requirements
Must successfully pass a background and reference check.
This employment does not require a valid driver's license, but it does demand occasional travel which the candidate will be responsible for meeting.
