The Experience Specialist is responsible for accurately capturing and maintaining patient registration data for patients admitted for outpatient services at UnityPoint Health - Meriter clinics. This position is responsible for querying databases, utilizing many different methods, searching for existing medical record numbers on all patients, in order to provide continuity of patient care within one medical record number that is assigned to each patient. The Experience Specialist establishes UnityPoint Health – Meriter Clinic billing accounts in Epic, in order to accurately charge for the services that are rendered.
This position is also responsible for completing insurance verification, which includes eligibility checking, obtaining insurance benefits in order to achieve maximum reimbursement. This information needs to be accurately entered into the system for use by UnityPoint Health - Meriter registration, billing, medical records, and clinical staff.
This position interacts with many internal and external customers and is responsible for creating a positive first impression of services provided at the UnityPoint Health – Meriter Clinics.
In addition to the registration and insurance verification duties, the Experience Specialist is responsible for scheduling all patient appointments in EPIC Cadence and answering a multiline phone and triaging calls to appropriate clinic staff, and creating patient call back messages routed to clinic staff.

Required Qualifications:
High School or Vocational School graduate
Ability to demonstrate strong customer service skills.
Ability to effectively enter information into a variety of computer programs.
Ability to understand and apply guidelines, policies and procedures.
Ability to interact effectively with physicians, health care team members, individuals and members of their support systems.
Ability to communicate effectively with people of diverse professional, education and lifestyle backgrounds.
Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English
Multicultural sensitivity
Microsoft Office – basic computer skills.

Critical thinking skills using independent judgment in making decisions
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous medical office experience preferred.
Previous experience with an electronic health record or medical office software preferred.
Previous experience coding diagnoses and procedures with ICD09-CM and CPT preferred.
