WHAT YOU’LL DO

The Manager of the Satellite Network Engineering group is responsible for overseeing the teleport and Satellite Engineering team. This role involves providing leadership in developing, implementing, and managing satellite and network solutions to support the business. The manager will ensure that the team delivers high-quality engineering services, maintains optimal network performance, and meets the organization's strategic goals. Additionally, the manager will collaborate with other departments to integrate satellite and network technologies, drive innovation, and enhance operational efficiency.

Major duties and responsibilities:

Manages satellite engineering staff, providing guidance, training, and motivation as necessary to develop the teamHires, terminates, evaluates, and counsels personnelSets performance standards, reviews performance, provides feedback, and recommends wage increases/adjustments by all applicable People Operations policies and proceduresPartners with business and IT partners to develop strategic plans, goals, and direction in support of new and existing customersProvides strategic consultation in developing solutions to meet customer requirementsLeads the resolution of incidents and ensures that resolution and root cause identification occurs in an expedient mannerMonitors staff workloads and issues related to providing agreed-upon service levels to clientsCoordinates preventive maintenance projects with vendors to minimize disruptions and downtimeManage vendors when on-site for projects and repairOversee repairs on facilitiesManage and maintain vendor relationshipsManages the resolution of the most complex availability and incident management issues (i.e. Crisis events) elevated from staff and clientsProvides senior-level support, leadership, and guidance for an engineering organization, supporting all production and broad-impact incidents and eventsManages annual support goals and objectives with clients and other IT areasPrioritizes initiatives and assigns projectsIdentifies opportunities for continuous improvementLeads quality initiatives to improve the delivery of servicesAnticipates current and future needs of the organization and makes recommendations regarding project scope, schedule, and budgetEvaluate alternatives for modifications to systems and recommend and/or make decisions on solutions that meet long-term business objectives and current organizational requirementsDevelops and implements operational plans to achieve departmental objectivesManages the evaluation and selection of teleport RF systems and VSAT vendor products and services, including contracting and consulting resourcesDesigns, develops, and maintains departmental budgetEnsures staff complies with IT policies and procedures, especially those for quality, productivity, service levels, and architecture standards that enable the team to meet established project milestonesProvide support to the Sales team by conducting pre-production testing of new products and customer applicationsManage Special Projects and performs other duties as assigned by Senior ManagementWHO YOU ARE

Required Qualifications

Undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field or the equivalent combination of training and experienceMinimum 10 years related teleport and VSAT network experience, including eight years of teleport services and operations experienceSatellite Technology including RF Link Budgets, Antenna and RF Subsystem specification to include gain, loss, phase noise, VSWR, intermodulation, group delay, etc.Satellite Networking Concepts - TDMA, FTDMA, BER, FEC, MSK, QPSK, BPSK, 8PSK, 16APSK, DVB-S, DVB-S2, ACM, CCM, IP Encapsulation, etc.VSAT network engineering and operationsMust be able to analyze inbound and outbound satellite data transmissions in order to optimize transponder bandwidth utilizationMust be able to recognize spectral signatures of properly modulated satellite transmissions, identify RF interference when required, and aid satellite operator in identifying errant transmissionsMust be familiar with high voltage procedures and precautions for repair of high power amplifiersMust be familiar with RF radiation exposure safety standards and regulationsMust understand TCP/IP and the OSI LayerYou must understand routing protocols, including RIP, OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, etc.You must understand Internet Architectures such as Firewalls, Layer 2-7 switches, VLANs, MPEG, IGMP, Routing, Switching, NAT, DHCP, ACLs, VPN, DMVPN, IPSEC, etc.Extensive knowledge of data communication analysis tools such as Wireshark, NetScout, Solarwinds, Cacti, etc.You must understand applications and protocols such as VoIP, FTP, HTTP, HTTPS, TFTP, SNMP, Telnet, SSH, Secure CRT, TFTP, etc.Must be able to develop and implement Traffic management/QoS solutions based on IP traffic/protocol analysisMust understand UPS/Generator/Power distribution fundamentalsMust possess a working knowledge of various IT platforms, including Fortinet; Fortigate, Cisco, Gilat, Microsoft Windows Server; Solaris, UNIX/Linux, Routers and switchesKnowledge of Microsoft Office, Visio, AutoCAD, and Adobe PDF writerPreferred Qualifications
