Job Description:
- Perform professional occupational therapy activities involving planning, evaluating, establishing, and implementing individual and group treatment activities as directed by a physician.- Interpret a physician's referral to select an appropriate standardized evaluation procedure.- Evaluate patients in areas such as independent living skills, occupational performance, prevocational work adjustment, educational skills, play-leisure abilities, social skills, and various psychosocial skills.- Interpret data and develop a treatment plan involving short-term and long-term goals, frequency, and duration of treatment.- Assist patients in carrying out these procedures through the design and fabrication of adaptive equipment and orthotic devices, joint protection, and body mechanics.- Inform patients and families about goals and progress.- Assist with discharge planning by ordering equipment and instructing patients on a home therapy plan.- May supervise students.- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills Needed:
- Knowledge of principles and practices in professional occupational therapy and materials and supplies used in the program.- Skill in organizing and instructing occupational therapy activities.- Ability to interpret prescriptions related to therapy needed.- Good interpersonal skills for establishing effective working relations with staff.- Ability to communicate instructions and technical information to patients.- Some computer skills.
