Job Summary

The Director of External Relations for Purdue Bands and Orchestras will report to the Director of Purdue Bands. The director will serve as key contact for Band alumni and friends and will work with Band students, staff and volunteers in planning and implementing all alumni programs both on and off campus. The Director will also serve as the spokesperson for Purdue Bands and will coordinate all marketing and public relations activities for the department. The Director will design and implement an annual marketing and public relations program for University Bands, serve as the public relations and media contact on behalf of the department, edit and prepare materials for departmental outreach publications and programs, and supervise activities of student interns and volunteers.

is the home for instrumental music at Purdue University. The department consists of over 1200 students, ten faculty members, and eight support staff and coaches to create one of the most unique music programs in the nation. Education and Experience:Required:

Bachelors degreeA minimum of two (2) years of experience in marketing, public relations or relatedSkills:Required:

Highly motivated individual with strong relationship building skills and demonstrated capacity for leadership, organization and teamworkStrong conceptual understanding of public relations, and marketingStrong professional communication and listening skills and ability to represent the University with tact and diplomacy at all levelsPersonal computer and related software skills, e.g. word processing, spreadsheets, database, Internet, etc.Ability to continuously improve professional competency through participation in professional education opportunitiesAbility and willingness to travelOccasional evening and weekend workPreferred:
