About the Role and the Department

Catchafire is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to enhance our finance team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day accounting operations and ensuring accurate financial reporting. You will lead monthly close activities and work closely with the Director of Finance to ensure compliance. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to identify and improve processes across the Finance team and provide operational support across the company. We are seeking a candidate with a deep understanding of GAAP, strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving abilities, and a collaborative spirit to thrive in our dynamic, fast-paced environment.Responsibilities

AccountingPrepare, review, and analyze financial statements and reports for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to standards.Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations while maintaining accurate and complete records.Manage the month-end close procedures.Provide timely and accurate financial data reporting to internal and external stakeholders.Prepare and file federal and state corporate tax returns.Account Receivables and Account PayablesOversee invoicing and billingEnsure timely and accurate processing of vendor invoices, employee reimbursements, and payments.BudgetingSupport the development and monitoring of annual budgetsTrack and report on budget performance, including variance analysisAssist departmental managers in managing their budgets and expendituresOperational Efficiency:Streamline financial processes and procedures to enhance efficiency and accuracy.Ensure compliance with internal controls and financial policiesCollaborate with cross-functional teams to improve financial operations and implement best practices.Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive operational performance.Compliance and Risk Management:Ensure adherence to financial regulations, tax laws, and internal controls.Identify and mitigate financial risks to protect company assets.Stay current with accounting regulations and industry best practicesProject Support:Assist in financial projects, providing data analysis and insights.Participate in system implementation and upgrade projects to enhance financial operations.Experience / QualificationsEducation:Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field. A master's degree or CPA preferredExperience:3-5 years of experience in accounting, financial analysis, or a relevant field.In-depth knowledge of financial statement preparation, journal entries, month-end close, and general ledger accounting.Experience filing federal/state corporate tax returns, requiredExperience with financial software (QBO, Bill.com, Rillet, Brex, or equivalent) preferred.501(c)(3) accounting experience is a plusTechnical Skills:Advanced proficiency in ExcelOther Requirements:Knowledge of financial regulations and compliance standards.Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.Ability to review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and proceduresStrong verbal communication skillsAbility to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.Competencies:Analytical Thinking:Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data.Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in financial analysis and reporting.Attention to DetailAbility to keep accurate and organized recordsAdaptabilityAbility to adapt to changing conditions and challenges that arise from evolving business models.Problem Solving:Proactive in identifying issues and developing effective solutions.Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.Communication:Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Ability to present financial information clearly and concisely to non-financial stakeholders.Team Collaboration:Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.Demonstrated ability to contribute to a positive team environment.Compensation & BenefitsThe salary range for this position is commensurate with experience and geography dependent - $70,000K - 85,000KA fully remote work environment with a one-time work-from-home stipend to help you set up your spaceUnlimited PTO and 50 hours of paid time off to volunteer.401K, medical, vision, and dental insurance
